ilovebass808
What kind of things are needed so that I could use the kindle or the iPad as a headunit? I'm probably going to go with the kindle fire because it smaller and cheaper than the iPad. BeAlLsTaR13
it requires proper integration, and since i have seen or heard nothing about a kindle install im sure there are not any products available for it. where as the ipad there are pre-fiberglassed housings kits you just fiberglass on your work area/dash kit where you want it, there are 90º inputs for installation, and extension here are the parts you NEED http://store.soundma...-ipad-1-2-or-3/ http://store.soundma...ee-passthrough/ http://store.soundma...xtension-cable/ to make your installation only easier, now what are you going to use to transfer your signals to your amplifiers? you'll need a pretty badass processor of some sort, which soundman highly recommends a unit such as this: http://store.soundma...udison-bit-ten/ those normally run $999.99, sure you can use a cheaper type of one you can find for about 300, but you are going to be severely limited to your options as the bitONE allows a high level input from the ipad and transfers signal out of the outputs which lead to your amps for a solid clean signal all in all, after all needed equipment is purchased (to do it properly) you'r gonna be about 1700-2000 in the hole, and about 10 hours of work to get it done i dont recommend doing an ipad install or any sort of tablet-dash install if you aren't experienced any bit in fiberglassing. just my .02 edit: it will also depend highly on your vehicle and your current dash setup, it could involve some sever modification. some dashes require blocking of vents, completely modifying the HVAC controls to a separate area, and just all around a lot of work. JWBryant
Do you have to take the ipad out when it gets cold or very hot? ilovebass808
wow!! i didnt know all of the parts are that expensive. i just called my local audio shop/friend and he said what he does is run it off of bluetooth audio from a deck. he hides the deck though. but thats all i got from him trying to explain it to me. could something like that work? and thanks beallstar for giving me the links and explaining everything. the only reason why i said kindle is because it has a smaller screen and can fit on my dash a lot easier than a ipad and it is a lot cheaper also. hopefully the guys who did nook installs can chime in and explain how they did theirs Edited March 23, 2012 by ilovebass808 Quote Check out my build! http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/129983-99-chevy-s10-build-log/
bhirst
I used the PAC IS76 pro for my iPad install. It gives you 5v RCA output just use a LC-1 for volume control. Use y splitters to send signal to a 4 channel amp for the speakers and the a amp for the sub. ilovebass808
How'd you control the volume and all that? From a EQ? I think that's what one gonna have a hard time on is finding a kit for the kindle. rogue
You dont have to have a bit one to do an ipad install. Im certain it is the best option but Im using just a JL CL-RLC and it sounds as good as any setup i have had. rogue
you need a line out cable for ipad with RCA connectors or a line out with 3.5 mm jack, you will need to get an adapter to RCA if you go this route. the Rcas will then connect to the jl line driver and then out to an amp. i custom made mine with a hand full of parts and cables. also you may not need the 90 degree connector as you can take the plastic housing off of the 30 pin connector and bend the wires the desired direciton and hot glue them there. it will give you considerable extra room. The 90 is still the thinnest option but if you got the room you can save about $70. I dont know where soundman gets em but I cant find them anywhere else. $70 is just bit high for some thing I know can be made for less than a few bucks.
