Need a Straight Answer - Wiring

Recommended Posts

going off of what snafu said.. i think basically this..

30-40% more resistance means when you add the second m1c, you will be in the market looking at voltage increase options.

considering the CCA is 30-40% more resistance you could probably lose some voltage.

resistance builds up heat, and heat drops current.

i will always use OFC.. even if its a lil extra expensive.

Copper is 1.5 times as conductive as aluminum.

So figure going OFC over CCA would yield somwhere in the neighborhood of 40% conductivity.

How much of a difference in the real world? I can't say. I have never used anything but OFC. Ever. lol

ok guys cool thanks for the imput. so currently i would be fine with CCA then? but if i chose to run another M1C then i would definetly need to run OFC. now, what am i losing now by going CCA vs OFC? i know you cant tell exactly but what could i be missing?

well if you choose to run the other m1c, you will basically be wasting whatever your going to spend on CCA right now.

in the long run you still lose whatever amount of money the CCA is.. but at least you will be using it..

either way you will lose whatever amount of money the CCA is going to cost you.

you can either, invest it into OFC instead, or have like 20 feet of useless CCA laying around in about 2 months when you get your second M1C..

so what if i dont choose to run other M1C for a little? will the CCA do the job? im not against OFC at all and will spend the money if i need to. I just really want to know what im losing with current power with the CCA

i guess, but your going to kick yourself if you choose to go with OFC later.

KNU is out of CCA wire anyways lol, just checked.

0 gauge ofc is good for 300 amps and using simple math knowing that cca is 2/3's conductive then u know that cca is only good for 200 amps of current, and what everyone is saying is either you can split it up into two runs one now then another when you get the new amp or u can just bite the bullet and take care of it with one run of ofc

edit : damn i got ninja'd for the second time today lol

thanks ray and everyone else with your opinions and knowledge. yea i have 2 6 inch grounds from engine to frame and stock bat to frame (stock bat is in trunk). so it sounds like for my current needs OFC is the only way to go from alt to stock bat. and i might as well switch out those grounds while im at it all 4$ worth. plus everyone seems to be on board. I just hate to spend double the money for what looks like the same thing even though i know its not. but i know it will be odne right. thanks everyone.
