AA arsenal box tuning

I have an AA arsenal 12 running at 800 rms sealed and would like to switch to a ported box.

I find that the single/ double bass pedal on hard driving rock/metal music is lacking punch and volume while other music such as dubstep sounds pretty good although more volume is always a plus.

So I have decided to switch to a ported box and was wondering what frequency the box should be tuned to. I love the SQ and compact size of sealed boxes but this setup doesn't quite get the job done. I can always swap boxes or remove the sub completely if I need the space.

Vehicle is a Mazda 3 sedan, im thinking sub facing rear and aero port to the side.

Any thoughts ?

well, if you can spare the space and want a great bandwidth, try a 4th order bandpass and put the port through the rear deck or the center arm rest, if you can.

but for a ported box, make sure you have plenty of airspace. you will probably need the port to be partly external if you want an aero. tuning to 32hz always worked well for me.

Rear deck is a no go and the armrest does not have a pass through. I'm not really familiar with tuning frequencies but what would the difference be between like 28, 30, and like 32 hz be. (aside from lower extension when lowering frequency)

look at some pics of an enclosure's response curve. you see a sharp drop off under tuning and a gradual roll off above tuning. if you look up pics it'll give you a good visual of whats happening.

Alright well considering my medium-small vehicle size I have no idea how cabin gain comes into effect. Honestly I don't really understand completely what cabin gain is. I really don't want a one note wonder.

I'm going to go with 30 or 32 hz what do you think would probably work best considering what I mentioned above.

Out of those choices, I'd say 32

For the listening style you describe - you could even go up to 35 or 38. Assuming you don't listen to a bunch of low note rap

Yeah don't really listen to much rap anymore, however I do listen to alot of bass heavy dubstep. I would tune higher I just don't want to compromise SQ and to end up with a peaky setup.

That being said , bass heavy Dubstep and chest pounding bass pedals for rock type music . Don't want to be too peaky and I want to retain a good amount of sq.

Assuming that's possible would a higher frequency be better ?

What are your maximum dims for a ported box and also interesting would be the dims of the sealed box you have now.

Max dims I'm not really sure, h 14 , d, 17 and l is a little more flexible. Somewhere in the lower to mid 20s.

My current sealed is like 14x14x14.5 I think , volume after displacement is like 1.03 or something. I also have 16 oz of poly fill in there
