nickers
ticking in an engine is generally associated with valve backlash, which you can adjust yourself with the right procedure. a little late to add this info but just thought id add that. shavings indicate oil isnt getting around the engine through the galleries, generally the cause is lack of maintenance thats why the motto is pay no save later... instead of save no and spend everything you have to fix it cuz you didnt fix a smaller problem. chevrolet all day er day. b-dubs89
some times piston slap can sound like a tick or clatter , piston slap it when the skirt of a piston doesn't fit right , piston slap sometimes goes away when the engine gets to operating temp . look at your oil pressure if at all possible , this will give you a clue as to the state of wear on your main bearings , low oil pressure would suggest some wear , assuming your oil is good , . if you want to try to limp it along , lucas oil stabilizer is worth a try . sea foam can't hurt but i don't think it will get you anywhere for you problem . nickers
some times piston slap can sound like a tick or clatter , piston slap it when the skirt of a piston doesn't fit right , piston slap sometimes goes away when the engine gets to operating temp . look at your oil pressure if at all possible , this will give you a clue as to the state of wear on your main bearings , low oil pressure would suggest some wear , assuming your oil is good , . if you want to try to limp it along , lucas oil stabilizer is worth a try . sea foam can't hurt but i don't think it will get you anywhere for you problem . just to clear it up in technical speak , piston slap is usually associated with excessive cylinder wall wear creating larger clearance between the piston and cylinder walls, or it can be related to the design of the piston, the pistons in some of the earlier (2001 ish) model vortecs had very short piston design and because the pistons were alluminum this made it succeptible to piston slap for the first 30 seconds of startup, this was annonced in a technical service bulletin saying its normal due to design flaw. valve ticking is a noise that you wouldnt be able to mistake for piston slap, if youve heard it the tick quite alot faster than piston slap as it happens every time the valve opens whereas the slap which mostly occurs on the power stroke. not trying to be a dick but clearing it up chevrolet all day er day.
