I could get more cone area from 12s cause I could use more of them considering the space limitiations in a mini truck cut-through. As for which ones....soo many to choose from, the Skar zvk looks interesting, Sundown's new lineup also. Always wanted to see what an RE XXX would do for me. I've rewired to 1ohm cause .25 is just not stable enough and the amp gets hot quick. I may be clipping it but IDK without a scope or a DD1. Let's see what it this beast can do. Tarball Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Share Posted September 13, 2013 OK, so I was playing back at .25 ohm on a song way below tuning ...yeah....oops. It was nice sounding until the bass dropped even lower - instant smoke (Dynamix II - Release the Annihilator) Bass drops lower at about 1:01 in the vid. most of the track is a continuous tone. So I shut it down quick but obvisouly too late. Amp smoked all to hell. That stink.... Amp still powers on to green but no sound. I pulled the cover and it has at least 3 burnt transistors. I have nothing bad to say about the 4000d it did exactly what it was supposed to do. Sounded good dropped nicely. It blew because I pushed it way hard and was also playing below tuning. I will be sending the amp in for repair and I'll use it in another build or sell it. Basically these subs need more power than the 4k could give it (really its about a 3k amp but does 4k at 16v). Yeah it sucked but another guy there had a Ground Pounder 3000 he let me borrow to compete. I wasn't near as loud as the Soundstream but at least i got to go through the lanes. 138.5 30 second average on music 145.4 sealed on the dash 145.7 outlaw No way to know for sure now but I 99.9% sure the 4000d would have metered much better.
