I'm new to the box building stuff. I'm going to be building a box for a RE MX 18" D1. I'll be tunning it to aprox. 33 hz. I've heard of a lot of people building speaker boxes out of birch plywood. Would a mdf or a birch box be best??? :help:

money isn't too much of a problem for once. its the time to build it. the sub came in an mdf crate and i practiced cutting a hole on it first. i burned through one whole bit to make that hole. will it be easier or harder to cut the birch???

birch if u got cash to spend. its lighter and withstands moisture better. IMO it sounds a little better. wont effect SPL tho.

hard to cut unless you got the right tools tho

Lookn good. thats some quality work there!

I just used a cheap "Dremel" brand router i had to cut the circle. i could always cut 1/4 - 1/3 deep with the router, lower it a bit and go again..... cut it in layers and possible go through a couple of carbide bits.lol

Birch is 35-40pounds lighter a sheet than mdf, so you will save on gas money lol.

I didn't think it was that much difference in weight.... I thought it was about 10 lbs lighter per sheet?
