1/0 Reducer question...

Recommended Posts

I have a Planet Audio BB150.4 and wanted to use 1/0wire with 2 reducers (1/0-4Ga) instead of just 4ga wire. When fusing, what size fuse to use since I already have (2) 30 amp fuses on the amp? Would a large ANL fuse work in this situation?

There is absolutely not one need in any possible way at all even a little bit to use 0g on that amp. If, and ONLY if you still feel a need to run 1/0 to it. You still put a 60 amp anl fuse 6" from the battery and if you don't trust the fuses on the amp 6" from the amp as well.

Reason I asked is that ive seen alot of builds with 1/0 with their 4ch amps and I have alot of 1/0 and didn't want to buy extra wire to run 4ga if I didnt need to. Why should I not run it? Would it cause problems for me to run 1/0 instead of 4Ga?

No problems. Just is beyond overkill. Just fuse correctly and it will be fine. Some 1/0 - 4g reducers are pretty big though. I have some stinger reducers laying around that make 1/0 wire look small.

I understand, but I just want to have that window open for upgrading in the future. Also, I didnt know they made ANL fuses that small! Lol. Im still learning as u see!!

No, it will not cause you any issues. Overkill, yes, but it won't cause any harm.

Why would you put a fuse on the power wire 6 inches from the amp if the amp has on board fusing? It is completely pointless.

To the OP, it is a waste of 1/0 wire to do that to this type of amp unless the amp was over 25 ft away from the battery it was connected to.

AMI, I understand your point but wouldnt it be a waste to put the 4ga in and then have to take it back out later on to put 1/0 in? As I stated, I do plan to upgrade later on and if it doesnt cause any issues mechanically as stated from the other posters then this would be a better option for me to just go ahead and run the 1/0
