Does port shape matter?

I am going to be building a box. And i was wondering if Port shape mattered. like square vs rectangle vs aero.

not really. The flare of an Aero-port will do more for the sound/output then the shape of the port itself.

but you don't want a port that's too thin. it'll be susceptible to port noise. but it all depends on the install as well
