KMS Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 SA12 D2 in a box. Took it out of the car since it is for sale and someone is coming by tomorrow. Anyway It's here and I don't want it to go to waste. I just bought a Sub-1200 from Dayton and the rest of the speakers as a package with a pioneer receiver. What I'd like to do it replace the dayton with the SA somehow. Will I need to buy a new amp and just put it into the box? Alpine PDX-V9 Morel Tempo 6 Alpine SBR-S8-4 Alpine CDE 149BT

I like being a lazy motherfucker. Anyways, that sub will NOT be happy in that enclosure, at all. Sealed or ported, especially on only 120 watts. That SA12 will laugh at that and tell you to fuck off. If you're dead set on it, if the SA12's would allow it, do a T-line and take that amplifier plate and put it in the box, if the amp puts out at 4 ohms. POTATO!
beaker Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 bigger plate amps on parts express are in-expensive, most are only 4 ohm stable though. How big is the room? What will it be used for? If its just music, there isnt much below 30 hz. If you're going to be using it for movies, you'll want a bigger box tuned to 18-20 hz to make the effects have more impact. I do hear that T-lines work better in home audio since box size isnt as much of an issue, and the output range is increased. I personally have never built one, and trying to read about them there's so many different opinions on how to do it.
