Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set

Recommended Posts

Couple things.

You mentioned "special things" in the xovers..

The proto looks very basic minus the alumn case

The surround, i have used it before.. The top portion up by the frame, just make sure that sharp edge is gone for production. Ends up tearing after a year or so

Tweeter looks nice but can you put regular spades pointing down.

Huge pita to terminal wire sideways then try to get that thru the mounting hole and ring.

You dont have to answer but ESB??

What is the cone material composition?

The passives are fairly simple 12dB networks. Early on in the development I was looking into passives with substantially more bells and whistles but I opted for a more simple approach with fewer passive parts in the signal path -- I've tended to like this approach more in my experience and feedback from customers, dealers, and distributors indicated that the passives wouldn't be utilized by most buyers (we are looking into offering the set a-la-carte for this reason).

Cone and dust cap are aluminum -- break up doesn't occur until ~10k or so on it.

I'll do some testing on the tweeter terminals as well and check that out.

No, just forgot, must have answered the same question somewhere else.

Anyway -- the test is 20-20,000 Hz full range with the entire set going (mid, tweeter, and crossover)

We got a pass up to 135 watts per side for 8 hours -- and a mechanical fail at 150 watts at 1 hour.

With any HPF on there will be an easy 150+ watts per side.

I put the prototypes in my truck -- the midbass is pretty nuts from them. I need to take my doors back off and do some super heavy dampening... we did a layer of Audio Technix new product already (which helped a ton) -- but these things make my doors go bananas.
