Too much wire just as bad as not enough?

Just out of curiosity, If someone had way too many runs of 1/0 for a small system, could that be equally as bad as having not enough? I know someone who is a retired mechanic and he tells me things that i've never heard of. I have 2 runs of 1/0 off of a 270A alt and hes always saying "oh you don't need that much, the wire will only carry so much" just want to put this to rest lol.

I don't think too much wire can hurt you, and 2 runs is not too much.

Everytime you add another wire you are dropping resistance by a couple of milliohms .. so its always going to be better with more runs

well, he is right. But that doesnt mean it will hurt you. It just wont have a benefit big enough to cover the cost

Yeah lol I don't think he undestand the whole less resistance thing. He keeps saying oh it don't matter what the wire is made out of or the ring terminal.... I know better but I just can't be bothered to argure with him lol, I mean hes 65 yrs old been retired for 8 so i just leave it be.

I har this stuff too, especially when i got to the auto parts store and ask for 1/0 ring terminals and they say, "what, are you putting in a stereo?" and then they shake their heads. "then the guy will say, "i can order them" and i say "so can i, i have amazon" lol

Yep, I hear ya. Then they will charge you like 10$ for 1 terminal with 1/2 inch opening and no surface area... Pretty bad

A lot of people think more wire is a waste or more resistent...how many watts is your system..what's your amperage draw....I have 10runs and its not enough...loudest cars in the world use many many runs....
