parker6594
I have 2 Rockford P3 12's and a Soundstream 1050 amp. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_18706_Soundstream_XTA10502.aspx For the amp it says - RMS Power @ 4 ohm: 2 x 260 Watts RMS Power @ 2 ohm: 2 x 520 Watts RMS Power @ 4 ohm Mono: 1 x 1050 Watts And for the subs it says - Power Handling:Peak: 1000 watts RMS: 500 watts I wired the subs to 4ohm and put it mono on the amp. And im guessing my friend turned the gain up too much while he was trying to tune them and they started smoking out of the port. I turned them off as soon as i saw a little bit of smoke. Wired them to 2ohm and 2ch on the amp, and now they play fine (they just smell a little when played at full volume), but i can play them pretty loud and they still hit hard even when played for 10+ minutes straight. If you have 2 subs that are 500rms each. Would you use a 1000rms amp to power them properly, or 500rms? Im confused on how this works. And the box leaks air pretty bad, but they havn't fried since switching to 520rms about a week ago.
AB18VFL
wire the subs to 1 ohm and turn the gain down alot. if a sub calls for 500rms, you should give it 500rms. so you got the right idea. wire to 1 ohm to give them the full potential of the amp, but dont fuck the the gain. alot of gain = more smoke. and patch the leaks on your box, dont slack on the most important part. parker6594
and patch the leaks on your box, dont slack on the most important part. Im actually making a new box today, i have another thread for that if any of you can help out with that too. http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 and welcome to the forum man, you'll learn alot (and it seems like you have alot to learn!) thanks man, i've actually been looking on this forum for a couple months now. never got around to making an account. I do have a lot to learn, but i just love nice cars and loud subs! i think you might want to re-read the amp specs. its 4 ohms stable bridged. 2 500w subs need a 1000w amp so should i bridge it mono to 4ohm so its at 1050rms and just watch my gains, or use 2ch at 2ohm for 520rms? This is a daily driver, and i play the subs all the time so i dont want them to blow real easy. I have it at 2ohm right now and it hits pretty damn hard even with a terrible leaking and broken box. STEvil
2ch 2ohm 520w is near identical to 4ohm bridged 1050. Either way you can push the gain too far. Quote MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
