can someone tell me a little about ports

About port size. i keep hearing it need to be bigger. why?

With too small of a port you can get some port noise, which basically just sound like a chuffing kind of sound. Also, a larger port is going to give you some more output as well. There's such a thing as too much port, so it's more of a "staying in the middle" sort of thing. Just by looking at your avatar, you can definitely add some more port area and not see any bad effects from it.

A small port also does not work correctly at high volumes. When the air velocity becomes too high, the port is no longer tuned to the correct frequency, and if it is bad enough, the box will begin to act like a leaky sealed box instead of a ported box.

It is REALLY hard to get a port too big. Most car box ports are right on the edge of being large enough, that is why people have better luck with larger ports.

This advice without context is almost useless.

There are several variables, Including the port area, port depth, and box size.

With everything held constant, you can adjust one and it will change tuning. To "fine tune" your box you want to single out just one and adjust it.
