Nice part selection.... Definitely gonna be a reliable setup

Thanks man, and by the looks of the other replies quoted I am missing a couple things lol.

YH upper said assembled with I assumed meant everything but the barrel, does it not mean that? In the picture it looks like it has the bolt and such with it. And ill check out those LPKs too.

Nope. what you have is the shell essentially. when it says assembled it means it has the ejection port cover and forward assist already installed.

same goes for your barrel you listed it does not have anything on it like i mentioned in my previous post. you still need the gas block, tube and muzzle device.

Oh damn ok lol, I am glad I asked first lol.

yoiure also missing hte rail as well. you may want to look into the fully assembled upper as well.

I knew I did not list a rail I mentioned it in my first post, I just haven't decided yet. I do know that I don't like the m16 style, I am thinking a full length quad rail, but I am not 100% yet.

Except for the m16 styling that looks real nice. (m16 looks fine just not my personal cup of tea)

So I think I am going to go with a DPMS bolt carrier assembly.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/214234/dpms-bolt-carrier-assembly-commercial-ar-15-223-remington-matte

Found a YH gas block that I think would be alright.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/335471/yankee-hill-machine-gas-block-low-profile-set-screw-ar-15-lr-308-standard-barrel-0750-inside-diameter-steel-matte

YH gas tube I found, (I want carbine length right?)

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2696124888/yankee-hill-machine-gas-tube-ar-15-black-plated

DPMS pin

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/384068/dpms-gas-tube-roll-pin-ar-15-lr-308

Midway is out of the Colt barrel nut, but is the Colt really worth double the price over like a YH or DPMS?

Muzzle brake is again a style thing I will have to decide on later.

Found a PSA LPK w/o the FCG, that looks good, and I will go with a Spikes trigger where ever I can get it for the lowest price.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/lower-parts/parts-kits/psa-classic-lpk-w-o-fire-control-group.html

I know buying an assembled upper would be easier, but I don't like easier lol. I will get a ar-15 multi tool for the assembly and torque wrench and punch sets are already around for farm work. Oh and like I said probably quad rail, full length, optic im not sure yet.

ok.

1st, the bcg you listed is out of stock and for 20 dollars more you can get a MUCH better one from Bravo company Mfg or Daniel Defense. Personally, you have a Daniel defense barrel so I would go with a DD BCG to avoid a headspacing issue. it's very rare with today's quality control standards but you never know, im sure you'd be fine with the bravo company one. if you want to be sure/anal you can pick up a 5.56 caliber (not .223) "field" headspace gauge.

2nd the gas block and tube is fine, you wont notice a difference between them and yes you want carbine length for the barrel you listed.

3rd, yes, the colt barrel nut is worth the extra because the barrel nut will be torqued anywhere from 30-80 ft. lbs (thats per milspec anyways) and the cheaper ones will round over on the teeth effectively making it useless, not allowing you to get the proper torque. thats one part it's better to "buy once, cry once". I've used the colt and had to torque it to 75 ft. lbs to get the teeth to line up with the gas port in the upper and it show ZERO marks not even a scratch. others soft metal will straight up bend or snap.

4th, the kit you listed is fine for what you're wanting to do. only thing you'll have to watch out for is out of spec parts but if you do find one, you can get a replacement from brownells for cheap.

ETA- check brownells.com (free shipping on orders over 125 with "dqx" code) thats where I get almost 100% of my parts. ADCO.com is good along with weaponsoutfitters.com

and finally, do you really want the extra weight of a quad rail when 70% of the extra rail space wont be used (lets be honest now). The point of a carbine is lightweight and portable. try looking for a smooth side free float that you can add 1913 rail sections to jsut where u need them. check out troy's alpha rail for an example of what im saying. There are several other manufacturers that offer rails like that one.

i was talking about the carrier only not the look of the rifle, if you look at the types of carrier you will see the m16 one has more metal to it. one of the cheap ar15 bolt carriers have the firing pin expose where the hammer will ride on it wearing it out sooner.

I checked out that Troy Rail and it looks like a winner. And I found an optic that I really like. It is a Burris AR-332 Prism Sight (link below)

if you are going to spend 350 on it. try to find an aimpoint pro. There is a reason you see 100 aimpoints trijicons and eotechs before you see anything else.

Sorry for the thread jack but if your ar pistols have the standard short buffer tube/spring the GSE's come with that's your problem. Switch out to a full length tube and spring. I've been building custom ar pistols for almost a decade and have yet to find a short tube/spring setup the works consistently.
