Dude, the truck in question has MUCH less room than the late model that your brother has. CVRs, I agree are not very deep and may work for his application, but don't suggest purely on the fact that they are both regualr cab trucks. Those mid 70s Chevy's were tight for space behind the seats, especially with the bench seats. I DO AGREE as well that shallow mount subs are turds, except maybe the JLs which are expensive as SHIT. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
