I too have dealt with single cabs my entire adult life. I know Ray on here has done a sweet ass box with 2 4" aeros firing into the B-pillar and he got some nice numbers out of it. MDF is easier when cutting and using a router, but it's hella messy and will have sawdust everywhere! I use 3/4 birch, but make sure there are more than like 5 plys. If Baltic birch can be found in your area, buy that, you won't be disappointed. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
