what causes port noise?

Recommended Posts

The box I built is 49wide x 35tall x 23deep with a port thats 33.5tall x 6.5wide x 20deep it gives me 13.57cubes after displacement of subs and port. I didnt factor in the braces which are 33.5 x 1.25 and 20.75 x 1.25 round wood.

you shouldest have any noise,

What you're probably hearing is you subs bottoming out or clipping, due to an over size box and too much power

how to you have them wied,

9cuft including sub displacement, @ 1200ms is all you should run, if you run more power you'll need to drop the box size down

Is that port 20" deep, or is it an L? If it is 20" deep and the box is only 23" deep, that is a problem. 6.5" wide port with a choked off opening inside the box that is only 2.25" wide.

If it is an L, then it is longer than 20". Would be 23" minimum.

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

I used Torres to design the box and it told me physical port length 12in so thats how long the port wall is behind the double baffle. What I put in for port was 20in

So if you have a 12" piece behind a double baffle wall, you have 13.5" total from the face of the wall to the rear of the port wall, is that what you are saying? That leaves an opening 8.75" wide inside the box?

Do you have any type of 45 in the corner behind the port?

Just trying to determine if your box design is what you think it is. . .Port noise can get very loud when you are playing below tuning.

how did you set your dd1

0 on hu and -10 on amp

i un mine at 0 and -3, but on you setup youll def need -10
