  • 3 weeks later...

Alright so i'm finally getting back to this, kinda lol. Difficulties with work schedules and crappy weather on my days off have kinda put me down and out. Here are some updates.

My buddy who works third shift than helps his dad during the day and works on his jeep in between said he would help me with my battery rack.

Recycling an old bed frame

Outer rails with spaces between the battery sets for the hold downs

Ends and center hold down braces, 6 total

All threads cut to length and ready to be welded

Center braces ready to be welded to all threads

One center brace welded up but not welded into the rails

I think i'll be taking the plastic floor out and just lining the metal with some basic roofing flashing just as a barrier so it doesn't squeak. The box will have a 1.5" thick floor which will get bolted down to the bed. Instead of lining the floor with 2x4s and stacking them up than sheeting the inside, i'm going to put the 2x4s even with the inside of the wheel wells but only have them in front of and behind the well, than stack over it also. That'll gain me a bit more space and than just double sheet the sides so the well has enough support.

Net interior dimensions are roughly as follows:

Depth - 56-60" depending on loading wall at the cab seal

Width - 38.75"

Height - 33"

Using 56" as the depth, according to rockford's interior box calculator that is 41 cubic feet. Should be sufficient for a 4th with a 3" thick sub face and plenty of bracing :)
