The nominal diameter is not to be used, for both sub models you need to find out the effective radiating area (Sd), then you do this Vd = Sd x Xmax (displacement) Two times Sd for the two subs option. Whichever option that displaces more "wins". Just bear in mind that real world results will depend on many other things.

If you are trying to compare 1 12" of type A to 2 12" of type B, there really is no way to compare without knowing what the two different subs are, how much power you will run, and what the enclosure will look like in each case. . . Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.
