Which would be more effective? I'm speaking of a single 12 with 19mm one way travel, or 2 12s with 9mm travel.

1999 Honda Civic- RIP

2003 Acura RSX Type-S

Well, all other factors the same, I'd imagine that they would be pretty equal if they both thermally handled the power well.

*New vehicle and system coming soon.*

The nominal diameter is not to be used, for both sub models you need to find out the effective radiating area (Sd), then you do this

Vd = Sd x Xmax (displacement)

Two times Sd for the two subs option. Whichever option that displaces more "wins". Just bear in mind that real world results will depend on many other things.

There is also Bl, power handing, Fs, and all the other t/s parameters.

If you are trying to compare 1 12" of type A to 2 12" of type B, there really is no way to compare without knowing what the two different subs are, how much power you will run, and what the enclosure will look like in each case. . .

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.
