so i have a digital design 1508 in the stock enclosure running off an alpine mrp m-500 and i was wondering when i played no hands by waka flocka the sub made a popping noise? but when i turn the volume down the popping noise seems to dissapear? what could that popping sound mean?

Could be loose dustcap, tinsel slap, overdriving the signal. Check over sub, try turning gain down see if it helps.

Check your gains, bass boost and the input voltage to the amp besides checking it physically for damage.

should i tune the amp with the sub level at 0?

only if you're going to leave it at 0 and never touch it again.

popping could be the voice coil tapping the back plate (bottoming out)

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

but sometime when listening to music i usually go up to +7 but for some songs if i go to +9 and up thats when the popping noise starts

you're bottoming it out. does it make that noise on the low part of no hands?
