logspace
I've got 2 12's (1242d) and am probably going to build a ported box for them. I was just curious if anyone has ever had them in a sealed box, and how they sounded. Or if anyone has had them in a ported box, how they performed. b-dubs89
i have had a few 10 inch type r's in sealed boxes tried running a single 10 and had a pair . if i were to try type r subs again i would go for ported box just because so many people on smd will tell me a proper designed ported box kicks ass . i didn't especially like the type r's i thought they were good for rap and not so great for other types of music . i think a guy should run some midbass' with the type r's

J R
I had two dual 2 type R's in my truck with only .8 cuft per sub sealed before sub displacement. I know it's a tiny tiny box, but it's all I could fit. They were great even in that small of a space. They don't require much sealed space at all to sound good if space is the issue. In a 4 cuft sealed box they were monsters. And in a 3.8 cuft slot ported box tuned to 31 I had one type R in there and it was wicked. The one type R ported was louder than 2 sealed. Sealed is easier on the subs and will cover a more wide range of bass but I'd go with ported. blkgp_03
I had 2 type R 12's in a ported box tuned to about 32 hertz. The box was about 4 cubes. They were monsters Quote Clip city bitch, clip clip city bitch. 10's, 12's, 15's, goin up in flames bitch. logspace
DId the sound ever get muddy when playing fast music? How about drum kicks?
J R
The Type R's are great for rap, if your going with rock they will be okay. For the price they will be great though. The "punch" is pretty good in a ported box but in my opinion...always better in a sealed. I will get flamed for saying that though. Oh and yes, much cleaner in a sealed box as well. logspace
Ah, thanks for the reply. Someone sold them to me for a very cheap price, so that's why I have them. If I was buying new, I would probably get more SQ oriented subs. I might try out both ways to see which I like better.
J R
Yep! It's all in your opinion. Some people may hate one sub, and other can't put enough of them in their vehicle, as you can see when you look around the board!
