TylerParrish
Was helping my friend work on his system today. We carpeted the box and put the subs back in and everything sounded great, he then asked me to tune his amp and now it just sounds like crap. So i set it back to where it originally was and it's just not as loud as it used to be. Subs: 2 memphis 12's 250 watts rms a peice Amp: Alpine mrp-330 or 350 (275 watts rms @ 2ohms) We checked in the box and no wires came loose, all the fuses are fine, everything is wired correctly We did not check the ground to see if it shorted out somewhere though. Has anyone else had this problem? Any and all input is helpful Quote What the f**k is an appropriate signature supposed to look like?2013 Kia Forte Koup Pioneer AVH-X4600BT iDMax 12 DD M1c @ 2 ohms Rockford Prime 200.2 Pioneer 6.75" Comp Set XS S3400, D2700 Project DB Battery Terminals Axxess ASWC Stinger HPM Everywhereeee 90 Sq. bassface
Make sure you got the polarity right on both subs.
TylerParrish
polarity is right on the subs, and no i turned the gain and bass boost down from where it was originally. Now the gain is up half way and the bass boost about a quarter. I'm probably clipping, but it's not up as much as it was before, so it's not nearly as bad as when it was first tuned. TylerParrish
turn the bass boost half way of a quarter. that will give you the most distortion you mean an 1/8th of the way? But distortion is bad? KillaCam
wtf^ @dtown Turn the bass boost all the way off. Check all your connections. Make sure the subs are wired correctly. Check your ground seeing as you haven't done that. Check the voltage at the amp. Swordlordboy1234
I was under the impression that zero bass boost with a track 5 DD1 tune was best. Tuning by ear, using bass boost, and guessing where to set crossovers are the best ways to make amps clip. I proved this to myself once by giving myself 15 minutes to adjust a bass amp as best as I could to be as loud and clean as possible. After 15 minutes, it was okay... But when I used the DD1 I found that I was clipping badly, causing the amp to overheat, and also I was losing some of the lower notes because of the clipped signal. Also I guessed what volume the head unit clipped and found out I was working with a distorted signal before I even touched the gain. The result. After 15 minutes I did my best to get a clipped signal that sounded maybe 6 of 10 on a rating scale. With the DD1 it took about 45 seconds to find the max unclipped volume on the head unit, and another 20 seconds once I got to track 5 (the compromise between sq bass setting and spl setting) to find the proper gain setting. What's not to love about the DD1? There are too many variables to do it properly as a human with only a screw driver. Your guessing where the head unit distorts, your probably not using clean tracks to start with, your ear can't hear distortion until it gets past some obscure number like 8% distortion unless your a trained audio file and then it's like 3% distortion. And this isn't even accounting for the output voltage of your head unit. If 2v then your gain will be higher, if 5v your gain might not even be half way up. Props to Steve for making me seem like a pro when tuning systems for head units, mids highs, and bass. People are always like "nah it's tuned by a professional shop" and I hop on there and show them how it's really done properly... Yet it's so easy to use. Moral of the story. If you want it right, spend the 140$ or whatever it is... And save the doubt and headache. The machine is better then the human ear in this instance. KillaCam
turn the bass boost half way of a quarter. that will give you the most distortion Do you mean, turn the bass boost down because it causes distortion? I think I misunderstood it the first time.
