I know that they have weak trannies but 1200lbs is a relatively light load. I believe its rated for 1800lbs with no tow package. But then again my parents travel trailer weighs 11,500 pounds unloaded and the truck is rated for around 16k. So maybe it's just light from my point of view. And i put my shit to hell and back, and it held all the shit i've done to it. ( That includes, burnouts, offroading x3 times, once was snowy, and was fine. ) Grandpa has a a 98 or 96 with the 3.3, and he tows with it. BlackWhizz Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 If 1200lbs is like 400-500 KG, that shouldnt be a problem. In holland we are allowed to tow (if the vehicle is rated for it) 750 kg's. Typical dutch engines are like 1.3 - 2 liter gas engines. We tow this all the time with a 1.9 TDi engine without any problems. Most cars are manuals.

Right now i tow with a 4.3 blazer and it does fine. It just has alot of miles (double what my van has). I live in LA so theres no hills or anything. If your van downshifts a lot on the hills i would recommend not using overdrive. Automatic overdrives get hot quick when pulling weight.
