Installed DC Power Engineering 270 XP ... wow

So I ordered a used 270 XP for $360 shipped on CACO for my GMC Jimmy (fancy Blazer, same 4.3 Vortec) and couldn't believe I just dropped 3 and 1/2 bills on an alternator. Previously I had done the Big 3 (+2 extra grounds) and put a Kinetik HC800 in the back and I had voltage drop in the low 12s going full tilt at idle. After a little bit of trouble mounting it (had to re-clock it, output stud and 4-pin connector hit bracket holding throttle/cruise control cables) I got this beast installed. My voltage doesn't move off of 14.9 at idle, I'm running ~1600W avg on bass-heavy music (clamped before my distro block), and I even removed the Kinetik battery and gave it to a friend for his build.

I also have to thank Stan Hackathorn over at DC Power, I called DC to resolve an issue (which turned out to be with my connector, oval 4 pin with only 1 wire connected which worked for my old alt) and he helped me very quickly. I didn't know I needed a sense wire with the new alt but I've never owned an HO alt and I won't forget again!

She's installed happily now, but I was damned tired and on my 3rd Rolling Rock when I finally got it installed so I forgot a picture. Maybe I'll snap one later if anyone is interested.

If anyone is debating which alternator to choose, I recommend DC Power, great product and service. I would surely pay retail for an XP Series alternator now after witnessing the high degree of quality in construction and performance of mine!

Love my 270XP as well! And be lucky you only spent $350......they go for $650+ new

I know they cost $650+ and I'd gladly pay it! Seems like everyone who spends the money on DC is happy to me.

I had to ghetto-rig the harness, the single factory wire to the alt had to be extended and I had to drill a hole in one of the connector's blanks and insert a sense wire. I have ordered the correct harness but some OFC speaker wire is standing in for it until it arrives.

That is why it stays at 14.9 constantly because sense wire takes the voltage to reg set point which for those AD series alts is 14.8-14.9, nice alt.

Yea, that's what I was told by the man I spoke with at DC Power. I meant I no longer drop to the 12s at idle like my stock alt did, it doesn't budge off 14.9 full tilt idling at 600RPM. DC makes a good product.
