josueh95
so ive been doing research online to see if i can fix my rims which the previous owner didnt take care of at all. i love to keep my truck clean and this has been bothering me for months. the rims are boss 330 24inch the aluminum lip was very oxidized and stained instead of the aluminum shine it should have. i had heard wet sanding would work but never had the guts to actually try it. i found a couple other forums online explaining how the proccess goes and decided to finally try it out. i used 600, 800, 1000, and 2000 grit wetodry sandpaper and used mothers aluminum polish the total cost was about 30 dollars. real cheap way to make them look like new heres how the rims used to look to sand these i used the jack to raise the truck. once i was ready i just turned it on put in on drive to have the wheels spinning i started with the 600 grit and moved my way up. the longer and more patient you are the better they will come out here is the rim after the 600 grit this is the 800 grit 1000 grit after this you start seeing some of the shine to come out 2000 grit now they are nice and smooth last step is to polish them up heres half the rims with some polish to compare the difference -2000 chevy tahoe 5.3 liter v8 -two DC audio level 3 15 inch subwoofers -2 pairs of infinity kappa 60.9cs components -rockford fosgate t1500.1bd for subs -rockford fosgate t400.4bd for mids and highs -alpine deck -big 3 upgrade 0 gauge power cable -optima yellow top battery -custom made subwoofer enclosure 6 cubic feet tuned at 35hz
TRTC360
rims look good, I bet if you went with an even thinner sand paper you could get more detail out of them. conceptM
Nice work, I used that proces to polish aluminum parts, works perfect. Did you apply a protective layer on top of the naked metal afterwards?
