mechman 270amp, what size wire??

I just got mailed my new mechman 270a alternator which has been very much needed to replace my 110a. the Only question I have before my brother installs it is upgrading the power and ground wire for the alternator for my 2008 escalade esv. I know nothing about this stuff and he's mechanically inclined enough to work on cars but he recommended me ordering some 4gauge wire from knukonceptz before he does the install. my question is how many feet of power and ground wire is needed, and also is 4 gauge wire big enough or do i need to go with something bigger? i saw on the description that the 4 handles up to 150A. i'm currently only running one 1200w rms amp and plan on eventually going to a 2k mono amp. thanks!

Lol @ 4gauge for 270a.

Use 0 gauge, minimum. If it were me, I'd double up on the 0 gauge

Probably? No. Definitely. It's as snowdrifter said. 0 gauge minimum. Double up would be better.

I didn't mean the probably literally i meant it as in go with

I would recommend a minimum of 1/0 and dependiing on the length of the run, you will most likely want to double up if it is more than 3 ft or so.

You ask how much wire you need, one way to figure it is use something like a shoe string and just measure the lengths of wire you need that way.

Yep, like everyone else said, minimum of 1/0 gauge, hell, I figure everyone should do atleast 1/0 gauge no matter what size the amp is! But one run of 1/0 gauge should be fine since it's short. Just look up the Big 3and what it is and do that and you could use CCA wire, but I suggest OFC for this. Just my $0.02

CCA (copper clad aluminum)=aluminum

OFC (oxygen free copper)=copper
