How to figure the displacement off oddly shaped things?

Recommended Posts

I just threw an estimate as to how much the extra stuff i have in my box will be displaced...but how do i figure out actual displacement so i can get an actual number? Mostly talking about cylinders and 45's...here's a pic of the box for a better idea:

You can kinda estimate in ur case. In really oddly shaped thing but area bags of packing peanuts and you can fill the enclosure to find how many cubes you've got

thanks man, ill try that once it's built

Double click the item, right click, select area->selection

edit, oh you will have to multiply times height. then divide by 1728 for cu.ft. Or dont divide or cu.in

no problem!, i edited my post so it was more clear what to do. My brain got ahead of my fingers. You may not have to double click on some things

Volume of a cylinder is calculated as V= pie x radius Squared X height then divide by 1728 to come up ft^3 or use this link http://www.mathopenref.com/cylindervolume.html

To find the formula for displaceement of your 45's http://www.mathwarehouse.com/solid-geometry/triangular-prism/formula-volume-triangular-prism.php or there is a calculator here http://calculator.tutorvista.com/math/30/volume-of-triangular-prism-calculator.html

Edit: thx for catching my mistake Torres :)
