Jessica Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Assuming .1ft^3 for sub displacement, it looks like you have about 1.85ft^3 per chamber with a tuning around 33hz. That's if the effective port length is the 18" that you described, and not longer due to how the port is situated in relation to the back wall(this will also affect the net volume I calculated due to the added displacement of a longer effective port length)...you might as well post the image if you want a more definite answer. just upload it to photobucket or any other hosting site, and simply copy/paste the url onto this page. X2 pics of said box would help a lot. the numbers you are getting are geustimates at best without pics. Your actual sub displacement and what type of baffle and other things are going to effect tuning a lot. Like Ram said, effective port length and the actual port wall(s) length are two entirely different things. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. Swordlordboy1234 Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u503/Jeffrey_Hald/cbc6a2fa.jpg Both of these images should help then. Assume my woofers take up .2 ft^3 ... I am still debating on which woofer but most displace .22 - .19 out of the ones I've looked at I just wanna know what this box is tuned to. Is it even a viable box to have? I'm gonna be semi walling in my accord trunk, with around 4 k watts. I know all woofers have different needs for enclosures. But if I find out this box isn't a 50 hz fart box then I can just make it deeper then 22" to add more ft^3 for the woofers needs that I choose. The width and height are still my max dims. But my depth can go from 22" to even 30". I was just being conservative at that time. Would I need to adjust my port lengths? So since those are separate chambers you can consider just one of the chambers, the external width is calculated as the internal width of one chamber plus 1.5", driver displacement for a generic 12" sub : Tuning would be a fraction of a Hz higher due to the effect of the slant in the outer layer of the baffle. Likely that box was made for some lower displacement 12's. I wouldn't say that this design would be appropriate for many subs out there so I think your best bet is to create your own design based on the subs you actually are going to build the box for.
Swordlordboy1234 Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 Thanks for the help guys! Well Ill be sure to ask again when i actually have the subs i choose sitting in my room. I wouldnt mind paying for a good design if that helps. Or atleast donating enough for a steak dinner if they wont accept payment for the box; cause ive seen a lot of people help design boxes for nothing more then a thank you. Thanks again to everyone that helped. Thanks again to everyone that helped. Just wondering what's up with the equipment you have listed on your sig. What about it? I haven't updated it yet, but so far I have my accord, I have my pioneer 7400 hd, I have my Rockford t600-4, I have Polk MM 6501's up front and I have Polk mm651's in the rear deck. My next upgrades are my big 3, and some deadener.Everything else is waiting on more money but it is coming for sure. Alternator will either be singer or dc power... Haven't decided yet. Subs I'm still undecided I wanted xcons but after more research maybe they were not the best choice but still a good one, amp I'm prob gonna go a crescendo 3500 unless I find another great 4k rms amp at an awesome price. and I think that covers everything I'm not posing fake equipment on my sig, I started by posting everything I was looking for in my system I'm currently building. And as I get it I check it off. That way when people read my sig they might say, hey dude are you looking for a 4k amp? Or something like that. My goal is to have this all done by my. 21st birthday on nov 2. According to finances I should be able to. Plan on going on a all night boom cruise down Miami beach with my new system as a birthday gift to myself. Hope that answered your question My old YouTube channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/SwordLords1234?feature=mhee My old build log : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/161872-96-accord-b2-sundown-sky-high-dc-power-re-re-build-for-heatwave/page-37 My New Build - http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/207041-2016-mazda-6-sql-build/ 2016 Mazda 6 Touring JL Fix 86 - OEM signal correction B2 prototype DSP 6to8 B2 Ref63 - 3 way active set 2 B2 Class H quattro's 1 B2 Zero.5R @.5 2 B2 HNv3 12 d2 B2 SLIP40 - Lithium in the trunk Northstar Group 35 under the hood 100ft 2/0 welding cable 30ft 4ga welding cable 20ft 8ga welding cable All stinger OFC speaker wire Soundrive custom RCA's Tons of attention to detail.... indianbasketball10 Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 not trying to threadjack, but im new to building boxes and want to build one for a single SA 15. I would just use one of the online calculators such as the RE calc or one of the others, but I would rather not pay money for a calc, or use one that is off because i have heard the RE is off quite a bit. does anyone know what the actual mathematics behind calculating box tuning are? i looked at that diagram from the calculator you had, and it all makes sense except the 20.125 in the green box. Where did that number come from? thanks a lot!
