I'd rather invest that kind of money somewhere else in the car since I'm getting the whole thing repainted when i get back from basic If you are getting the whole car repainted then why not just wait until then? Then just paint it all at one. There is a TON more work that goes into painting than people realize. Painting itself is pretty quick and painless....but the prep if done right can be very time consuming, and not very enjoyable! Lol. Don't do it twice if you don't have to/want to! Just my $.02! Firm believer in letting my cars do my talking! You can't rush quality, it doesn't happen overnight. Quality takes time and dedication, but the end results more than pay for it. If you do it yourself and screw it up you may end up spending more than what the shop wants. Lol, I gotta be honest...if I always had someone to do the sanding and prep work I would get a lot more things painted! Although I have found when it comes to painting stuff....ESPECIALLY black paint....it's most times just better to do it yourself. I don't trust others prep work, and if you are going with black paint I am surprised who ever you are having paint it would be ok having you do the prep with what sounds like your lack of experience (no offense menat byt hat.) Audio-Concepts Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Wet sanding is exactly that! Take a bucket with a little soap and water and sand the primer with 600 grit wet/dry sand paper (i recommend 3M products. when you finish priming mist some trim black paint over the bumpers, this acts as a "guide coat", and helps judge when to stop sanding! Basically when there is no More black speckle and the bumpers are gray! If you want to paint it fairly cheap, look into Nason products, prolly at most $300 with primer, paint and sandpaper! If painting in a garage, make sure to hose the floor down under where you are painting, this helps control the amount of dust and dirt that goes in your paint!
