Single or double?

For the $ there are plenty of other subs that will walk all over the w7. Check out DC lvl 5's. You can run a single 12 ported an still have great sq and the spl you ate looking for. JL's IMO are way over priced.

I appreciate the response, but that doesn't answer my question. ;)

I do want to do a sealed enclosure, since the response of the subs needs to be immediate. House music and rock don't respond well with ported enclosures. :(

you must have never heard a good ported enclosure. also, seriously for the price, you could get something way better or equal for less cost.

As you can see most of the guys on here are gonna try to steer you away from the w7. I say if that's what your mind is set on getting then get it. Its your money and your choice. I do agree with the other guys tho that there are better subs out there for the same price you would pay for a w7. If I wouldn't of got a great deal on the 2 I have I would probably be running a different sub. But that's beside the point. The point of your thread is to try to help you make the best decision on a box and that's what I'm here for.

Oh, I'm not set on the W7. I've just heard good things about them. I'm hard on my subs... the music is always up. For me, I'd like response time to be in sync with the music coming out of the mids and highs... past that, I want it to boom hard. Reliability is a factor... I've blown many subs.

This is going into a 2009 Mercedes CLS 550. I don't have an amp yet either, so I'm open to suggestions for pairings. I plan on having the box designed and built at a shop, custom for the vehicle.

What about a pair of 15" L7s? (I'll probably be crucified for asking that... lol)

oh dear, oh dear.....for sound quality, that's a big ol no no to the L7's....never cared for the way they sounded imo...real muddy in every setup i've heard. If you're blowing subs, you'll prolly continue blowing subs until you learn about tuning an amp the proper way, and hopefully it's a decent shop with at least a few good reviews, if it's anything like the shops around me...you're better off designing and building it yourself

Gotta love when people come on here asking advice more or less, they get some and keep putting their own ideas out there. It's your car, you'll probably be fine with 2 sealed shop installed L7s if you've only been running 2 10s. What kind have they been, and how you blowing them?

in a million, trillion, kabillion years,i would never play that song in my ride. I don't care if its clipped or not LOL. I feel like my nads got clipped after playing this for 15 seconds just to see what it was LOL.

No thanks bro. Not into it.

well if he's looking for real sound quality, L7's just aren't the way to go, he said he wasn't set on the subs he named, so people named other one's options for him

Ok, since you're looking for sound quality, L7's isn't really a good choice, yeah, they can get loud, but that's about it really.

Now if you still have your eyes on the W7's, then that's alright, they aren't bad subs by any far, just over priced, but the main thing you should also be focusing on is a good box design that'll allow you to play whatever you heart contents (meaning good range), and of course, picking a good quality amplifier to match as if you're going for sound quality, you shouldn't ever skimp on amplication.

I know, and then he went on a tangent. I'm also not sure that he needs a perfect quality either. He hasn't named his previous setups for comparison, he probably just doesn't want a BAD sounding setup which can basically always be avoided if the work is done well.
