Single or double?

I've been out of the game for a while (I've only used a pair of 10s in each of my last 3 vehicles). Used to have a pair of Orion XTR 15"s back in the day.

I'm looking to add some pretty serious bass to my Benz. I'm pretty sold on the JL 13w7, but I've never heard one in person. Will one (sealed) be enough to kick the air out of your chest? I hear great things about these subs but I'm skeptical. The W7 in a sealed box appeals to me because of the tight bass... I want SQ but at the same time, I don't want it to be a pushover on SPL.

Any ideas on how this would compare to 2 15" XTRs from the late 90s?

For the $ there are plenty of other subs that will walk all over the w7. Check out DC lvl 5's. You can run a single 12 ported an still have great sq and the spl you ate looking for. JL's IMO are way over priced.

I appreciate the response, but that doesn't answer my question.

I do want to do a sealed enclosure, since the response of the subs needs to be immediate. House music and rock don't respond well with ported enclosures.

that's not true, it's all about the tuning and design of the enclosure.....

everybody asks me do i have 2-12s and they look stunned when i say one

but i would go with the jl specs but bassbox suggest a sealed box

i agree ^^^^ tune and box design, and jl its really over price a 13.5 price its the same as the AA SMD's 15s and this things are bulletproof

Sounds good on mine too, and I'm rockin a big-ass port in a big-ass box and two big-ass 18s....lol

What kind of vehicle is this going in and what kind of wattage are you gonna put to it? I'm running 2 13w7s now and have done sealed and different ported enclosures for them. Throwing the T S parameters into a box calculator will say it is best suited for a sealed enclosure but I like the all around sound quality of them in a ported enclosure to tell you the truth. That and kick drum beats are alot more intense. Just my 2 cents. If you have any questions please ask away.

And yeah, I've heard W7's on proper sealed, and proper ported, sounded better on ported though W7's are overpriced in my opinion, if you want something comparble that'll work in either sealed or ported, FI Q, or Ascendant Audio Havoc.
