Head Unit Crossovers

I am trying to figure out the final piece of my install the head unit. I am looking at 4 different units

Pioneer DEH-80PRS

Kenwood KDC-X996

JVC KD-A95BT

Clarion CZ702

All have DSP and time alignment pioneer has l/r 13 band eq, kenwood single 13 band eq, JVC and Clarion are both 5 band to me more eq is better but not a deal breaker.

My question is the crossover section of each i am leaning towards the kenwood because the crossover frequencies have the largest range on each channel and adjustable slopes but i am being told it is not actually an active crossover and will not do what i want it to do. Can someone explain active crossover VS what this unit has. I know the pioneer has active crossover and is pretty much everyones favorite but since i am running 3 way+sub it doesnt really work as well for me as the others. I am not sure active crossover or ? on the others and how this will effect things

running active means that you actually use your amplifiers crossovers instead of the HU's. With that in mind, for sound quality and overall better quality in my opinion, the 80-PRS is one of the best.

None of these units do 3way + sub. The clarion and the pioneer are the only active units, which do 3 way. 1 low pass, 1 bandpass, and 1 high pass.

The kenwood has 2 high pass and 1 low pass. The JVC has one of each.

That in mind, the 80prs is the best out of this list.

DAT 4125------>RE XXX comps active

Can you explain active crossover in the unit Vs what the others have. I understand active Vs passive crossovers since started doing systems when passive was all we had but dont understand that within the HU since all have multiple ranges and slopes. Yeah i understand none will do 3way+sub i will have to use combination of the HU crossovers and the amplifier crossovers to accomplish this and that is problem with 80prs the high pass for the high range speaker starts at 1.25k all the other give me some sort of rage for the high range speaker that will allow me to use the amp or as last resort the passive crossover with the component set to do 3way+sub

No to the first part....

Yes to the Pioneer 80PRS

correction to the op,

the pioneer 80prs has dual left right 16 band eq and not a dual left right 13.

you might be able to get a better answer if you list the equipment you plan on using. without telling us what it is you are using know one can tell you accurately what will be the better hu for you setup.

2 t2d4 15"

1 t600.4

1 t400.2

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

i would go with the Kenwood...but then i am partial to it, since i have that particular one....not a big fan of the pioneer stuff anymore. heck, I would suggest skip trying to do it with the HU and get the 3sixty.3 or Bit One or some such.

Where does Burpleranger come from? My ranger is a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge, Sonic "Blue"

In a certain light it looks purple, but then it also looks blue. lol

Everyone's system is "the best" in "their own mind" (this includes me, even though i "know" its not)
