SLAYER1805 Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Well my RF P1 12" is finally about to bite the dust, over a year of clipped power has burnt the coil and the suspension is worn to hell so it's continuously bottoming out. So it's time for an upgrade, I plan on getting an Obsidian Audio 12" and I was wondering if I can give it 1000 RMS @ 1ohm from a Hifonics GLX.1000.1D, I have access to a DD-1 so it will have the gains properly set, or should I just get the same amp and give it 750 RMS @ 2ohms, its going in a 2.3 cubic foot box tuned to 35hz, Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it!
jeffrm Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 With OAs 750@2 would be plenty. Sounds like youll be getting the dual 4, which is good because if you want another you can wire @1 with the pair and youll be set 03 tahoe z71 4 death penalty 18s 2 ampere audio 3800s @ .5 each 18v 156.7 @ 35hz 158.5 @ 50hz
SLAYER1805 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Sweet, that's exactly what i wanted to hear, thanks man
jeffrm Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 No problem, man. I have 4 OA d2 15s in my truck now and they love the 3k im throwing to the 4. They could actually handle more, but @ 750Watts each they get down, so if I go any bigger on my amp it will only be around 3500. Look up "Obsidian on 5500" on YouTube. That guy has 4 OA 15s on a crescendo [email protected] ohms. 03 tahoe z71 4 death penalty 18s 2 ampere audio 3800s @ .5 each 18v 156.7 @ 35hz 158.5 @ 50hz

TylerParrish Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 It wouldn't be seeing 1000 watts from that Hifonics amp though since it's rated at 14.4 volts...unless you can stay at 14.4 all the time, still think 750 @ 2 is better for all intents and purposes though. DruLoco Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 you should be fine with 750 with that box being a tad on the bigger side for that sub...i'm getting around that power to my obsidian 12 in 2 cube box and it get's down.
