tgunnem
Hi I am new please excuse my n00bness. I put an optima in my car. The battery that came with it isnt very old its been in my basement for a year. Im starting to have dimming lights and such. I want to add it because im just a poor college student who cant afford another optima. Is there any way to hook up both batteries without damaging my optima? Im wondering if an isolator prevents damage and if I had an isolator installed would my optima tap into the extra batt when needed? thanks! (ive seens alot of things online about this but im on day3 of research so i joined this godly forum instead) 1999 oldsmobile alero optima yellow top Alpine CDE 124SXM hifonics brutus 1200.1d (2) lanzar opti 1232d inverted in mtx side ported box lanzar cheap 80 dolla holla 1000 watt 2 channel - infinity 6x9 factory door speakers on bass blockers (dont judge me) big 3 in 4gauge
That1Kid
Don't put a regular battery in your trunk/cabin. Its very dangerous. Just don't. -98' Ford Expedition (Rest in Peace) -AVH-P3300BT -Crescendo BC5500 -4 18" DC m2 Level 3.

Autruche
I have a standard wet cell up front, and an Optima red top in the back. I've had it set up like that for more than half a year with no issues. Nothing fancy done, just both batteries wired in parallel. Need Test Tones/Sine Waves? Watch the bass
It´s no good idea to mix AGM´s and lead acid batt´s. Maby it´s a option for you to sell the batt and get one of those http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/144556-dont-seem-like-a-bad-deal/, maby still to much for an student but cheaper than a Optima. Watch the bass
You can put them together with 0/1gauge or a bar and you dont need to fuse them seperate. "in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty" Bob Marley

tgunnem
my main concerns are: 1. damaging my optima/cutting its life very short ive heard that having 2 different age/type of batts can cause the better batt to be damaged within months making it ineffecient 2. fire anywhere on anything lol 1999 oldsmobile alero optima yellow top Alpine CDE 124SXM hifonics brutus 1200.1d (2) lanzar opti 1232d inverted in mtx side ported box lanzar cheap 80 dolla holla 1000 watt 2 channel - infinity 6x9 factory door speakers on bass blockers (dont judge me) big 3 in 4gauge
