SixTwoRado Posted December 14, 2012 Author Report Posted December 14, 2012 Alright you guys so I took some really accurate measurements today and ripped my jump seat out. Looks like I finally found a winning design using a slot port. The box will pretty much look like the one Joe X made, but with the port only having one common wall and more in the center of the box shooting out the side on the bottom. If that makes sense haha. I haven't got a chance to make this one in sketchup yet though. Going to be hard to make, I hope someone can build it for me when the time comes. Anyways here is the torres sheet and the winisd graphs for frequency and rear port air velocity. Who really knows if I did everything in winisd properly though. Air velocity still seems a little high at 30 m/s? Still a little worried about port noise though. How does it look to you guys. I have no idea what port noise sounds like, and I never want to find out. I have 14 inches squared of port are per foot so I would guess Im ok. And I have 1.75 net volume which should be fine with the SA-12 on 1,000 watts Im hoping. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks.
SixTwoRado Posted December 15, 2012 Author Report Posted December 15, 2012 So you guys think that's good^^^? Im going to start trying to make it on sketchup right now.
Joe X Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Checked your box and looks fine, you won't be getting port noise with the current port area but for best results sand any sharp edges inside the port including both ends, also it seems that Torres restored his former port displacement code so now it matches the old version. Provided that you build the port correctly by following the center line and that it not nears the slant if the box, your box is ok. The WinISD plots look questionable, probably some of the parameters you entered have are incorrect, maybe I will try myself to see if the same comes out, not really very important since your box spec is within recommendations.
SixTwoRado Posted December 15, 2012 Author Report Posted December 15, 2012 Alright thanks Joe. Yah Im not 100% sure that the winisd numbers were accurate. I should be fine with the 14" squared per foot though. Im have a little trouble now though. Building the box in sketchup as we speak. I need the port to have only 1 common wall and be more towards the center of the box to stay away from the jack hump thats in the back of my truck like you see in the other pictures. Right now with a 10" wide port its kind of making it to where the end of the port inside is kind of close to the slant of the box. We'll see what happens though. As long as its like 3" away from the slant or so it should be fine right?
SixTwoRado Posted December 15, 2012 Author Report Posted December 15, 2012 Here is a pic of the port on the inside of the box. The port is 2.5" x 10" think I have enough clearance from the angle and the top of the box? I cant move it the other way at all because then the end of the port will be partially blocked by the jack hump in my truck.
Joe X Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 That's right, 3" away would be enough, in case this is some help, to calculate the length of the port parts here is an example of a different box, the total length of the port below is 31" (along the center line which is what appears in Torres port length)":
Joe X Posted December 15, 2012 Report Posted December 15, 2012 Here is a pic of the port on the inside of the box. The port is 2.5" x 10" think I have enough clearance from the angle and the top of the box? I cant move it the other way at all because then the end of the port will be partially blocked by the jack hump in my truck. If it like that then there is no problem.
SixTwoRado Posted December 15, 2012 Author Report Posted December 15, 2012 Alright thanks Joe. Im really happy with my design. Now I just have to get a shop or someone to build it for me hopefully pretty close to what I came up with. Because I really paid attention to a lot of little things as far as fitting in the truck. Since Im over the aeroport deal Im going to start a new thread about the box build with my sketchup drawings.
