falcons03079313 Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Has anyone had any experiences with car audio having a negative effect on your mpg? I just took my system out consisting on a 40lb 12" woofer, a 2cf box made of 3/4" mdf, and my dc2k out of my Audi, and since then my mpg has increased substantially. I'd have to say by at least 10mpg. Anyone have any similar experiences?
BEEMDUB Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 when you get into a lot of weight I could see where it would cause some loss in mpgs, 10 mpgs sound like a lot to me tho...
Leo1103 Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 A system is a lot of weight when you think about it. The subwoofer, the amp, the box, batteries, etc. They all make your engine work harder to lug your stuff around. 2002 Honda CR-VAlpine 9887My BuildRebuilding... skyhighcaraudio Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 i lost 3 mpg with my stereo lol no way in hell you lost 10, i have 1000 lbs of batteries alone so your 200 lb stereo (being generous) will not cause a decrease of 10 mpg Contact us for the best quality cables and accessories with the fastest shipping in the industry EMAIL: [email protected]<script data-cfhash='f9e31' type="text/javascript"> /* */</script> LIKE US ON FB: https://www.facebook.com/SkyHighCarAudio ADD ME ON FB: https://www.facebook.com/jon.rabe.1 MONSTER SKY HIGH/DC GMC: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/127057-sky-high-monster-gmc-walk-through-12-lvl-5-15s-6-9ks-trim-panels-and-wiring-p-90/

That's why I was curious. Because I deliver pizzas and with my system in I would use almost a quarter of a tank a night. But when I took it out I only use about an eighth of a tank. And I drive around the same amount of miles each time.
Leo1103 Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 were you driving faster/ more aggressively when you had the system in? like harder and faster acceleration? 2002 Honda CR-VAlpine 9887My BuildRebuilding... I have a 1.8l 4 cylinder. Engine size does make a difference.
SoCaLBaMF Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 I think something else affected you're mpg... my trucks got over 1500 lbs worth of stuff in it and it still gets 19 ish mpg. falcons03079313 Posted November 5, 2012 Author Report Posted November 5, 2012 were you driving faster/ more aggressively when you had the system in? like harder and faster acceleration? I would have to in order to accelerate. I'm not saying it slowed my car down to the point where I need to put the gas pedal to the floor, but there was a substantial difference in acceleration with the system in.
