building extreme new computer * pics added 4/29/13*

I feel like this may be a fantasy build.

I never like to spend more than 500 on a computer at once, mainly because it all depriciates so fast. I got my 1366 mobo/cpu off CL 3 years ago for 150. I've just never been able to spend that much on my own stuff. That and I'm a cheapass :)

sorry to burst your bubble but this isn't a fantasy build.. i have always enjoyed having high end computers and when i built and purchased my XPS 630, it was high end at the time.

yes i know everything goes down hill quick with technology and new stuff being developed and brought out all the time. but i imagine with this setup being picked out, it'll stay at the top for a year and half. maybe more ( hoping 3 years).

i am very close to the end of upgrading my XPS 630 and could proable put more in it but frankly, im tired of staring at this dam case which is big enough to be a dam server. ( which is what it'll become when the new one gets built)

You going to water cool your GPU? and are you going to upgrade your gpu, or staying with the 580?

If you're going to go SSD, get 2, and put them in RAID0

I know it sounds silly, but if you have the money, get 4 750gb laptop drives and a hot swap 5.25 case and do a RAID5, you'll be happy if one drive dies, and with 4 you can easily sustain 200+meg/sec from the array.

Current SATA3 controllers, on a good mobo that has at least 2x on the PCI-E bus for the SATA will do sustained reads of over 1000meg/sec with 2 SSD's.

I'm partial to the Crucial M4's from my testing it has the best hardware garbage collection, making it suited best for RAID.

You shouldnt have any issues running the 580, unless you're running over 1920x1080 or multiple monitors, you wont see much of a benifit going to a 680.
