I'm down to either doing six SA-8s, 4 SA-10s or two SA-15s in a t-line in place of the rear seat as a permanent install. Well... as permanent as a basshead can get. I've already built one with a ten in it and it did well. Next, will be the fifteen and I'm also gonna build one for a GTO 8 that I've got before I make the final decision. I posted a video of the 10" t-line here but that was with it wired at 4Ω and only getting ~500 watts with my amp on four gauge. Now I've got all 1/0 and I tested it today at 2Ω and it hit way harder than the RE SRX fifteen I've been running for the past few weeks. And I do mean WAY harder. I demoed it at a local shop I've been courting for some box building work and that one demo got me the design and building of their in store demo wall and I have my own spot in the store to demo and sell my custom cabinets. Actually, the beauty of t-lines is that any woofer will do well in them. Woofers with low Qts are supposed to do better but that's rather subjective. The problem with them is that they're hard to design and for woofers with a low Fs, they take up a lot of space. As for building one with dual chambers (one to the front of the driver and one to the rear), the line is tuned to the Fs of the driver, which is the same on the front and the rear and changing the length of the line doesn't necessarily change the tuning frequency. At least, not in the same way that changing the port length of a bass reflex or bandpass box changes tuning. Like everything else in audio, ¼ wave t-lines are a compromise for space. If you had enough space to make the transmission line of any given ¼ wave box 4 times its length, it would still be tuned the same. And, of course, tuning the front and rear of a driver's piston the same would be like playing it in free air. The similar but out of phase waves would cancel one another out and the output of the box would be crappy. With all that said, I suppose you could slow down the speed of sound with stuffing and make the lines different enough in length that the two similar waves would be in phase and if you could, you'd have acoustical peaks at virtually every frequency that even the best 6th order couldn't produce in a passband. Might be a fun project to work on with an 8". But I probably should shut up now and stop threadjacking Hellbilly's build. Box coming along yet?? Head unit in yet?? EDIT: I wanted to stop back in here and say forget everything I wrote in this post. I was half asleep and not thinking clearly... obviously. T-lines don't HAVE to be tuned to the woofer's Fs so yes, a bandpass t-line is possible and has been done. And yes, they apparently hit hard as fawk.
