New D3100 resting @ 12.76

YOU NEED TO CHARGE A BATTERY BEFORE USE....

Read it in the information included with your battery.

12.76 is perfectly acceptable. My D3100's all rest from 12.8 to 13.1, that's after sitting with a charge.

You read too much. If the battery is sitting at 12.8+, most likely it is going to charge for about 5 min and float. All of mine have done that. I get them in and when I have tried to charge them, the charger automatically kicks over into float.

So why MUST you charge them if they are already fully charged?

Normal resting is 12.8-13.2, you batts above 12.6 so it's good to go and don't need to charger first

Why would XS pwer say otherwise about charging before use?

I'm not sure where you got that from? Nathan will tell that himself, if you ask. The instructions with the batts are a general good practice. Topping them off won't hurt, but in some cases, people don't have a charger, and 2 there using the wrong kind. So if they don't need to buy one then go with it. Personally I would suggest anyone investing in Xs batts to buy a charger, but I know it's not practical for everyone. Hell I own 3 of there charges, 1 mobil and 2 mounted in the xterra. They prolong the battery investment if maintained properly. But remember over charging a battery with the wrong charger is just as bad and not maintaining at all.

Being a "seller" for a company you should never publicly tell someone to go against what's written in the literature included with the product. Unless of course it's outdated or misprinted. Nathan has also posted to charge a battery before use. So that's two places I get my information from. I understand what you're saying, but you said you added 7 more batts your bank in another post because you want to take care of your gear. That's a big junk of change, but then you say pass on a charger? You can pick up smart chargers for 50 bucks that are agm friendly.

I have a charger, dont get me wrong about that. ALL of my batteries came to me resting at 14.8 out of the box. I put the charger on 1 just for shits and giggles and it never charged, it immedaitely floated and said fully charged. Why would I need to leave it on the charger then? If I want to charge the batteries, I will just turn the amps off and drive around and let my alternator do what it is designed to do. Now after a long week of beating the shit out of the battery bank, I will leave them on the charger over the weekend and let them top back off.

Some batteries do need to be charged when you get them though. Say you buy a battery from an XS dealer and it has been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for awhile. You might get a battery that is resting at 12.3v. Now that battery needs to be charged up before installing. It just varies from case to case. It is very simple to take a dmm and check the voltage of the battery when you get it. If you get a 12v battery that is resting at 12.8v, there is no need to charge it before installing.

Well I'm sorry but I will never tell anyone to pass on a charger. To me it makes no sense to spend thousands on batts and buy a cheap 50.00 junk ag, charger. I have 3 Xs chargers. But the average comsumer is very cheap. The spend alot of amps and subs and when it comes to electrical, the rock stock alternators and buy as many of the cheapest batteries they can afford for there budget. At the end of the day it doesn't matter to me what someone buys. 2 things will happen, they will come back and buy what I suggsted in the beginning or burn there amps and subs up and then replace that until the realize they made a mistake. I care about everyone of my customer and suggest for them what I feel is the best choice and what I would use myself. It's there choose to listen or not.

I'm going off what's written ;) Just passing along proper info, I'm not saying its 100% do or die.

My D3100's varied from 5-15min on my smart charger.

My NSB130 sat for a while but the resting voltage was pretty low.

what makes you think a $50 charger is junk? I've even seen someone at xs power suggest the particular unit I'm using which goes for 50-60 bucks. Granted it does a max of 10amps but it does the job and it does well. I don't see how you can write something off without even knowing what it is.....

Let me know when you document the whole charging cycle with you Ctek charger. Personally don't have the time to ensure it never goes over 14.9. I'll just do it right the first time and run the hf1215's. 50.00 vs 200.00 for the charger the company builds for there batteries, isn't that big a deal to me. As know its right.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. I guess every repair shop should run out and buy xs chargers because all others are garbage

TDH FTW !!!

I don't have a ctek charger lol. I have set a DMM along side my smart charger to see actual readings and it's spot on.
