1300watt system, do II need a HIGH OUTPUT alternator?

Recommended Posts

The real question is what voltage do you drop to? I wouldn't thin you should need an h/o alt for your system. But every car is different.

I'd get the AutoZone one for now.

Do you have access to a dmm? Get your alt installed, start the car, drive it around for 10-15 minutes then stick your probes from the dmm on the battery and see what your voltage is. Then turn your system up and see what it drops to

What type of car? What does your stock alt output ? If your stocker is way under your amp usage you may need a HO alt even at just 1300 watts.

CURRENT SYSTEM:

  • Alternator:
    1. Stock alt on mids/highs
    2. Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v
  • Batteries: (2) XS D1400s
  • Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks
  • Headunit: 80-PRS
  • Sub Amp: DC 5.0k
  • Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones
  • Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal.
  • Mids & Highs Amp: CT125.4
  • Active Components:
    • Mids RE XXX 6.5c
    • Highs - 3 RE XXX tweeters per side(A pillar)
  • Noise Control: Damplifier Pro all over the cab.

You should be fine with big 3 and that second battery. I'd say just get a volt meter and make sure you aren't dipping too low

Edit: can't type

Hopefully as I'm dead broke to to the holidays and cant afford the HO alt.

Ever since I did my installed, I never did check voltage drop since lights never dim or bass issues.

I do have a ddm, ill do the test when I get the alt.

Its a 2005 acura tsx, im thinking arounx 80-100 amps

Well, since your alt is dead and I assume you need your car I advise the following:

  1. Get the autozone alt to get you up and running at the least.
  2. Do the Big 3 while you change the alt - use all 1/0 OFC -do not remove existing wire, add to it.
  3. Set your gains so that you are not clipping the @#$% out of your music.
  4. Monitor voltage as indicated above.
  5. Make additional upgrades as appropriate.

Ask Singer and Mechman, Singer is often the lowest offer!
