FamilyB4Others
Well my alternator just took a crap today. Only pushing 1300 watts with some leds. Do I really need a HO alt? Should I buy a stock one at AutoZone for 120.00 and return it every time it craps out or 550.00 for a HO alt with only 2 yr warranty? Ps i got a second battery also. wcefai
You should be fine with big 3 and that second battery. I'd say just get a volt meter and make sure you aren't dipping too low Edit: can't type
SnowDrifter
The real question is what voltage do you drop to? I wouldn't thin you should need an h/o alt for your system. But every car is different. I'd get the AutoZone one for now. Do you have access to a dmm? Get your alt installed, start the car, drive it around for 10-15 minutes then stick your probes from the dmm on the battery and see what your voltage is. Then turn your system up and see what it drops to ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

I do have a ddm, ill do the test when I get the alt. What type of car? What does your stock alt output ? If your stocker is way under your amp usage you may need a HO alt even at just 1300 watts. Tarball
Well, since your alt is dead and I assume you need your car I advise the following: Get the autozone alt to get you up and running at the least. Do the Big 3 while you change the alt - use all 1/0 OFC -do not remove existing wire, add to it. Set your gains so that you are not clipping the @#$% out of your music. Monitor voltage as indicated above. Make additional upgrades as appropriate.
