CleanSierra Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 So it's tuned 39 probably before any sub displacements, since they obviously can't account for what subs you're putting in. That means likely, you're right around 40 or in the ballpark. A new box, as Kranny and I have suggested, built well, tuned low to mid 30s will suit you better. Definitely try better with your current equipment and see if you find those missing frequencies Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
kaydennicholson Posted January 8, 2013 Author Report Posted January 8, 2013 i heard about $350 to make a custom box. i have a Dbox: t sounds kind of loud but not as loud as it should and when its not playing real loud it just sounds like a rumbly mess Everythings in a 2010 malibu subs facing the trunk NOW WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK? I'd hate to spend the money making a custom box and not getting much of a change and having to sell everything again, losing the extra money i put for a custom enclosure. Please help me!!
CleanSierra Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 You'll have a night and day difference with a better box. Something with proper space(which that box doesn't quite have) and a proper tune. I can guarantee a MUCH better sounding system with a new box alone. Many guys on here can design you one(myself included) and give you a cut sheet. If you were local, I'd build you the box. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
CleanSierra Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Also, don't think of it as wasting money on a new enclosure. Once you have a badass box, you can use it for the next set of subs Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
john253a Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Another thing to remember is that if you build it And build it propley it will suit a large number of other sub as well, So you won't have to sell everything just the subs or amp
kaydennicholson Posted January 10, 2013 Author Report Posted January 10, 2013 Hey just talked to a few guys at a really good and renown place and said I should run 0 gauge from Battery to amp, 4 ga from battery to alternator. Said he was going to to do some calculation son the box and subs but I am going to throw a few more questions up here. 1. Doesn't every sub need a different size/shape box for optimal results (therefore if I get one, sell the subs and put different ones in, they won't bee to specs, right?) 2. Had 2 JL w0v2s b4 on a 500 watt amp, loved them. If the setup doesn't work out, should I go with 2 sundown SA12s or 2 JL W3s? All these questions make me feel like a dumbarse...): lol
kaydennicholson Posted January 10, 2013 Author Report Posted January 10, 2013 They said building a custom box would be around 275 btw, is that a good price?
kaydennicholson Posted January 10, 2013 Author Report Posted January 10, 2013 Just looked around a bit and doin do can get 2 12w6s for 664, or 2 2 SA12s for 400, both at my door. $260 difference but if it makes a noticeable difference It could be worth it, honest opinions please, please don't give biased responses
severancej Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 I'm not sure the going rate of a nicely built enclosure. I built my box for about $50 over a weekend with a friends help. I had a drill and bits, circular saw and I borrowed clamps and a jig saw from work. I built a 4cuft 35hz double front baffle enclosure out of one peice of mdf. (thanks to joeX) Do it yourself if yu can. Search for a enclosure designer, get the cut sheet, Build the new box and try it, yu might not need new woofers. 98' dodge ram 140A alt Big 3 XS D2700 JVC kd-r310 Rockford T500-1BDCP 2 Sundown E12 Ported 4cubes 35hz Rockford P400-4 2 Infinity reference 3way 6x9 2 Polk DB 5 1/4 2x layer dynamat all doors
CleanSierra Posted January 10, 2013 Report Posted January 10, 2013 A lot of 12" subs like the same volume requirements so if you build to right volume and tuning, it will suit MANY subs very well. If you were gonna run TONS of power to a couple subs, box size would need to be shrunk, but I don't think that is going to be a problem that you are gonna run into. Honestly, $275 isn't a bad price for a custom built enclosure, if its done right. I designed, built, and shipped one to a member on here for quite a bit cheaper and he is very pleased with it. The main reason I did it for him was because he's a REALLY cool guy and he didn't have anyone local to help with it. You may ask around this forum if any guys are local to you that could help build one for you. If I were local, you could buy the wood, and a case of beer and you'd have a box built. And I'm telling you, you haven't heard those REs shine yet. The SA12s are definitely a step up big time in every way over the RE SEx subs you currently have. I know the box is holding you back though, and if its replaced with a better built one, you'll be much happier. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
