tacomaguy1 Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 component sets will come with a crossover, the mid and tweeter connect to the crossover then connect to the amp with running active you wouldn't use the crossover that came in the set and hook up the mids and tweeters directly to the amp. Then you would use either the headunit, amp, or some sort of processor to set the crossover points for the mids and tweeters individually Team Flex Issues

MrSkippyJ Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Technically speaking, active vs. passive refers to anything having its own power supply vs. using power from something else. Active crossovers have their own power, and allow you to control the crossover before the signal is amplified. Passive crossovers use power from the output of the amp and you have no control over the signal before amplification.
