Dolemite Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Hi folks. Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm in the planning stages for a system in my ol' Ford, and I was wondering what yall have to say about it. The car in question is a 69 Fairlane fastback. I'm going to be leaning more toward SQ with this one (I have an S10 for SPL). The package tray in this car is absolutely huge (roughly 56W x 30L). For years I've toyed with the idea of mounting subs on there, and I've decided to pull the trigger on it. the front portion of the deck will house a pair of 10s, as well as a 15 in the middle of the rear. I'll be building a box inside the trunk to house them all (separate chambers, of course). Here's where the questions come in... since the 10s will be for upper end bass, I assume they'll be happier sealed. As for the 15, I'm not sure. My only hands on experience is with sealed enclosures. What do you all think? For enclosure space, I have about 45Wx30.5TopDepthx40ishBottomDepth (axle hump will have to be worked around). I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future, but that's it for now. Thanks, and I'm lookin forward to seeing what everyone has to say. Here she is... Deck Trunk Trunk 2 Sail Panels... Maybe some 5.25 or 6.5s molded in?

stroupe79 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 just from my slim to no knowledge of the term SQ....you would want as much sound coming from the front as possible..if you want to be clear and loud that's another thing all together... I would try to get ahold of Cableguy18, he is pretty helpful with SQ setups http://www.stevemead...cherokee-build/ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alpine CDE-hd148bt Alpine PKG-RSE2 PRV Audio (4) 6MB200 front/rear doors PRV Audio (4) TW350Ti dash/rear doors Kicker KX350.4 Obsidian Audio (1) 18 D4 v2 revamp (2) Stereo Integrity HT 18d2DC Audio 1.2k5.25ft^3 tuned @34hz revamp Infinite Baffle Cpillar AudioTechnix 60mil deadenerKnuKonceptz & SkyHigh wire (complete setup)
Kyblack76 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Cableguy is.. I would in fact be less worried about my low end enclosure, and focus no where BUT in the front stage. Id load the fuck up on it, and power it to the hilt..... AKA Steve's LEX.... But with affordable and wicked bad ass HERTZ gear and processing..... Done.. Dolemite Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 Thanks guys. Care for some back story on the car? It was my very first car, and also the first car I ever painted. It looks like crap now, unfortunately, but it's all getting redone in the no too distant future. I got the car in 98. I was 17. I'd gone to a lemon lot to check out a foxbody mustang that I'd seen in the thrifty nickel. Saw this car, came home with it instead. Every frosted tipped backward visor douchebag in Dallas had a foxbody (a club I'd rather not be associated with) so I brought the Ford home instead. It was bought brand new in the fall of 68 by a lady in Ft Worth. She owned it up until she died in 95, then her nephew got it through all the power of attorney whatnot. It sat on his used car lot until 98 when I took it home. He only started it once a week or so to keep everything charged and lubed, otherwise it just sat. Although I'm technically the 3rd owner, I consider myself the 2nd because he never actually changed the title nor did it ever move from the back corner of his lot. It was bone stock, down to the dogdish caps. Factory air and disc brakes, 2bbl 302. I even have a big manila envelope with the original warranty card, the "protect-o-plate," the original title, bill of sale, registration slips from 68 thru the early 80s. Muffler receipts, a wax cup from the dealership that had ridden under the back seat for forty years... SOOO much stuff on this car in there. I even found the build sheet in the front seat (unfortunately it's in about 50 pieces, but it's 90% there). Fast forward about 2 years and I got in a wreck christmas eve. I was pulling out of a parking lot and as I did, the van in the next lane decided it wanted into mine. Roached everything 8 inches in front of and behind the driver door. After getting a few estimates JUST to fix the sheetmetal and prime the car, I decided my broke ass needed to learn bodywork. So I did. Entered the field as a porter and within 6 months I was a Diamont certified porter (to me it was something of an accomplishment). A year goes by of my working on the car before work, on lunch breaks, and evenings. The (now ex) and I had only a month before our wedding and she insisted that she did NOT want to drive away in (her words) "a primered up turd." So I rushed to finish and painted it to the best of my abilities. Looked go0o0o0od. Original Whimbledon White with lilac marbelized black flames. Minus the obvious cut bodywork corners, it looked really good for the first few years. In 02 I yanked the motor and went through it. Bored .030, big ol lumpy cam, 11:1 KB slugs, Weiand Stealth... I ended up with a pretty stout little 306. One afternoon while calmly motoring down the country highway (at about a buck 30....) numbers 1 and 5 rods decided they'd had enough. One perforated block, broken crank, and shattered cam later, I got no hotrod. Then the car sat. A LOT. Fast forward another 10 years and here we have it today. The car currently has a $50 craigslist 302 that is barely good enough to back her out of the garage under her own power. *sigh* I'm tired of seeing the car in such sad condition. I'm in the middle of v8ing my s10, and as soon as that's done it'll be time to get the ford back on the road (my buddies give me shit for doing the truck first. hard to chase parts in a car...) Other than out/into the garage and the occasional limp around the block, I haven't really gotten to drive it in a decade. Shameful. Anyway, here are some more pics of the Ol' Bitch. I really can't wait to get back in. Base shot, flames readty to shoot 3 days later... This was near the beginning of the burnout. I stayed on it for about a minute. Ended up with Mesquite police and fire at the shop... hehe. My first solo engine build. My only help were google and this OOOLLLDDDD guy that lived up in the hills. Old dude had acres of cars. A yellow nomad that he drove daily, a beat to shit 68 rs/ss camaro, a 68 charger with a tree growing through the floor and out the driver window, and a 66 Galaxy GT390. The engine was in pieces in the trunk, but it was all there and it belonged to the car. Oh, to load up some of his old junk... Damn, you got a fat ass!
