Joe X Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 If you plan on firing forward and your seats fold down and there's a good opening to the cabin, the 15s IMO will perform well and you should seal off, if you are planning on firing backwards then the box is so big that will likely prevent good airflow so in that case the 12s box could perform better, according with some modeling I just did on both options the 15s will arguably outperform the 12s (in optimal) firing both options forward and sealed, modeling analysis is of limited value though.
Guest Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 squeezing is bad. woofers won't be able to breathe properly. maybe you'll even lose output using fifteens instead of twelves, but no-one can say for sure.
CW06Silvy Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 just a question but could he fit 2 12's in a 4th order ported thru the deck?you might have to squeeze the sealed side and keep it a 2:1 but could it work? 2006 Silverado Ext. Daddiboiz Posted February 5, 2013 Author Report Posted February 5, 2013 Only opening I have towards cabin right now is my ski hole. About 8x4, although was considering switching rear to a 300m seat where seats fold completely down giving much larger opening
Joe X Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 8x4 is really low port area for 2 12"s (specially those) in ported let alone 4th order, if you are in the side of better performance, one way to help it would be changing the seat if feasible. Some people open the rear deck also.
Daddiboiz Posted February 5, 2013 Author Report Posted February 5, 2013 Alright, after debating and looking at trunk/time involved, I think I will go the 12 route. but still want keep enclosure close to 3 ft or higher per sub, that way if want more output, OUTPUT the xcon, INPUT the Zcon!! Now for a design........
Joe X Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 So here is a suggestion, maxed out net to limit: *Seems too wide to fit in it's way into the trunk. Enclosure Specifications:Fb = 33 HzVb = 5.5 ft^3External Height = 17 inExternal Width = 41 inExternal Depth = 23 inPort Width = 5 1/2 inCut Sheet List:* All Dimensions in Inches.* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.External Enclosure Parts:2x Front = 17 3/4 x 15 1/22x Front Internal = 16 1/4 x 15 1/2Back = 41 x 15 1/2Left & Right Sides: 21 1/2 x 15 1/2Top & Bottom = 41 x 23Shared Port Internal Assembly Parts:2 x Front to Back = 18 3/4 x 15 1/22 x Extension = 3 5/8 x 15 1/2 Assembly guide (generic dimensions): Important notes: - The 45s if you want to do them are 2 1/2" wide except the one/ones inside the port, if you want that let me know.- All trunk boxes built outside the car need to fit in their way in not just have the right dimensions.- The port needs 5 1/2" of free airspace in front of it for proper operation.- Setting your amp's subsonic filter to 26Hz is suggested.
