alt rebuild question

I gotta question guys. I have a 99 accord factory alt and redtop under the hood. I think my alt is on its way because my voltage is low 13s with no amp and my dash lights almost cut off just from rolling the Windows up. I don't want to spend 500 on an alt. I found a local shop that says he can rebuild it with all new Bosch internals to be around 200amp close to idle. Nobody really makes H.O. for my car at a reasonable price. Can it really be built to 200amp or is he just trying to get my money. From what I have found nobody builds on this case because its to small to get what you need in there. I just want to make sure he's not getting over on me. It's a place in Hampton va called Dixie electric.

And the red top is less than 6mo old. My voltage used to be 14.3 with my old system.

By the way its a 4cyl

i am no expert but on the research ive done on rebuilding stock alternators you will never see 200A @ idle on a denso alt. you would be lucky to build it to 180 max. most commonly those denso alts can be built to 90-100 amps @ idle and 160~ @ 1500 or so. i too have a honda and know how bad the alternators suck. but even 90A at idle would b a huge jump from the 30-40A that the denso does at idle. They can be rebuilt yes. but in reality theyre just not very good high output platforms to build on. you should try experimenting with gm alts. better platform and certain cases drop right in. alot of honda guys do it.

Do you have any info on the gm cases that drop in. I have been looking for 2 weeks and I havent found much info for these hondas. This has become a pain in my ass. I never had this problem with my chevys lol

Hopefully with my tax return, I am going local to, and rebuild my 91' civic alt from the stock 60a, to an upgrade 100A with the same casing. They said it was the biggest they could get out of the case, and I think they said around $120 to do so also.

fuck the plating. look at what the main metal used is. you could buy unicorn blood plated terminals but if its just covering up dog shit, whats the point

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

cs130d is a drop in case but still only does 40-60A at idle but a much better platform to build on. there are kits out there to.rebuild them h/o also the cs144 and ad series alts have been found to fit as well but those are large case gm alts. the cs144 does 130-150A i believe. crazy output for a stock gm alt. also on the cs130d theyre found on hundreds of gm cars so make sure you get one with the right mounting ears. bc i made the mistake and picked up one with the wrong mounts. the cs130d like any other series has different mounts per what car it came in. also cs130 with fit in as well which is a little bit diff from the d. you would think theyre the samw but both built differently

Have you asked Singer Alternators if he can do something reliable on your case?! (I'm sure he does and have personally experience on Hondas).

If you want a serious solution Mike is your man! I wouldnt believe sellers that offers you a huge amperage for lowest price. I have read many threads that finally the people reports that there is no additional performance in comperance to the stock alt. A High Output Alternator is much more then only the windig/stator!

Thanks for the help guys.I havent asked singer yet. I have seen his name mentioned a few times so I will do that. I asked one of the alt guys on here tenny alts I believe but did not really get an answer. Mine also has an electronic load detector in the fuse box which I have read gives people problems too. Im goin to look into those alt part numbers in the morning. Im trying to decide if I wanna keep my old school mojo 15 or get an hdc3 15 an solve my electrical problem too lol.

mike can build the denso alt up to 160 i believe and will do 90A idle. yours might vary but if you stick with the denso case you wont get any battery lights and less problems. the gm alts will give you a battery light and most often make the hondas go into some kind of powersaving or limp mode and get sucky mpg.

I'm keeping the optima. I only got it because a buddy works at advance and sold it to me for 100 brand new. I was thinking about throwing an xs or something in the back if this alt issue does not work out.
