AmmoJammo
link seems to have broken? I assume its shunts on the negative rail, measuring the voltage drop across them.
__d_a_v_i_d__
Example 2.Amplifier with the maximum power of 100W for the load of 4Ohm. Maximum output current there will be 5A (P=I^2*R). With the work to 4Ohm the protection will operate at the power of 100W, with 8Ohm of current overload simply it will not be, with 2Ohm the protection will operate at the power of 50W, i.e., it is accurate at the moment of the overload of amplifier. But if amplifier is not calculated for the two-ohm load, then neither the total nor exceeded power from the amplifier to remove will come out. Failure of amplifier is improbable. The elements of current protection most frequently are connected into the emitter or discharge circuits of output transistors. With the appearance of current overload the protection locks output transistors, limiting output current. This is sufficiently effective and is reliable, if amplifier is executed on the discrete elements, t to the elements of protection are immune to heating from the heat-releasing components, and their operating conditions practically do not change. But if amplifier integral (microcircuit), then there are no these elements either or they are subjected to general heating together with the crystal of microcircuit, and the stabilization of the modes of operation of these elements is hindered. It is completely possible that these elements are disposed to the wear and tear with the maximum permissible values of the output current, when microcircuit works on the limit. By these, I think, it is possible to explain the frequent failures of integral amplifiers, and the, as a result, extended opinion about their unreliability. I take it you came to the conclusion that it was the short circuit protection coming in to play?

I take it you came to the conclusion that it was the short circuit protection coming in to play? Seriously stop saying that, it is the most dumbass comment in this whole discussion. It makes no sense what so ever. You are looking at this from the complete opposite point of view, you are so far out in left field that I don't even know if you can come back to play ball. Comments like this confuse the hell out of new forum members cuz they get the complete wrong idea. What you are saying is so wrong I need like a triple face palm....... AmmoJammo
lolz so, anyway, once the car is fixed, I'll measure voltage drop, not that it will tell me why the amps are more prone to protect with more voltage.
AMI CUSTOMS
lolz so, anyway, once the car is fixed, I'll measure voltage drop, not that it will tell me why the amps are more prone to protect with more voltage. Oh jeeze, voltage drop isn't the fucking problem!!!! It is the protection circuit because you have low ohm load!!!! I don't give a shit if you put 16 volts on that bitch it is still gonna protect due to ohm load. You do realize amps are more sensitive when strapped right? You understand what strapping is doing right? You are running the slave amp out of phase. Makes the amp alot more sensitive to circuit protection. AmmoJammo
So why is it that more batteries/more charge results in the amps going in to protect more? that's what the question has been the whole time, and no one has been able to answer it.... amusing responses, but very uninformative. DubNDodge
I know nothing about an amps internals, but what I gathered from this thread: A amplifier is set to make X power. If you go over X amount of power it will go into protect. If you have more voltage going to the amplifier(less voltage drop), the amp will produce more. Putting it over that X amount, putting it into protect. If you have less voltage going to the amplifier(more voltage drop), it won't be reaching that X amount, not going into protect. Am I correct or am I off?
