Cboeger
My older cousin wants to sell me a full sub setup for $300. 2 MB Quart RWE-302 (12" Subs, 1000 peak power, 500RMS each) So 2000 peak power and 1000 RMS total. The amp is a rocksford and its 600rms @ 2 ohms and im assuming 1200-1500 watts peak power. My question is if I have my music volume up at 18-20 volume all the time, I think the maximum volume on my head set is 30 its the Kenwood KDC-355U, will I blow both subs very quick because of underpowering them badly by 200RMS each? On top of that should I be fine if i put bass boost on the amp and head unit?
Emmet
You can't blow a sub by underpowering and peak power doesn't mean shit. Edit: Well... unless you clip the absolute tits off them. Just set your gains right. Give a look here and see if anyone has a DD-1 near you and you'll be all set up! http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/137758-smd-audio-tools-map/ i shook this one kids hand and it just folded in mine. long story short i fucked his girlfriendso.. yeah.. You want this to happen to you? Give decent handshakes people. I was gifted with an innate ability to distribute wholesale ass beatings in a timely and orderly fashion. Jskiles
Peak doesn't mean shit with subwoofers and amps. And no you can't blow subs from underpowering them. Azagtoth502
Correct underpowering won't hurt, just don't send them a clipped signal. pa-pa-platypus sorry not everybody has a companies nuts so far down their throat they catch every drop ball sweat when it falls
Cboeger
Alright so just set the gain correctly and I won't ever blow these subs and also would you rate mb quart subs better then kenwoods?

Set the gain with a DD-1 to ensure that no distortion is present in your audio signal, set the crossovers, and you should be good. Good luck!! Cboeger
Ok thanks. I didn't want to buy these subs and stuff off my cousin then have to buy another amp thats like 1000-1100RMS @ 2ohms because that would put too much stress on a 110AMP alternator lol On top of that should I be fine if i put bass boost on the amp and head unit? Cboeger
NO BASS BOOST ON ANYTHING... Why exactly arent you suppose to use bass boost if your underpowering subs?
Wicks
Bass Boost should be relabeled the "Distortion Knob"... Don't use it. Once you've set your gains on a system with flat settings then "boosting" above that at certain frequency will increase your signal level past your voltage rails and clip the signal. You're equipment has internal output voltage limits which you want to tune right to the top of. Bass boost increases your signal on top of that and causes clipping at a certain band of frequency's. If you're tuned correctly then you shouldn't even need it. EDIT: Your subs have nothing to do with adjusting your gains. underpowering/overpowering...you're adjusting the output of the amp for a clean signal, that's all. Over-driving your signal is what causes damage and is where the "underpowering" rumor started. People pushing their equipment past its limits.
