Distortion help

I'm having some bad signals and need some help tracking down the problem.

My deck is a sony Xplod, about 5 years old and I recently installed a second amp and sub already having a component pair and amp. Purchased the DD-1 in an attempt to not blow another amp and speakers. The deck volume goes to 35. Not sure if this matters but the CD player doesn't work so I converted the DD-1 disk to WMA (as it's lossless) and put it on a jump drive playing it through USB.

Testing signal at the deck using RCA, I'm getting:

40Hz

Signal Detect @ 23

40Hz Detect @ 25

Distortion @ 17

1Khz

Signal Detect @ 25

1kHz Detect @ 26

Distortion @ 23

Testing signal at the component amp, I'm getting:

40Hz

Signal Detect @ 16

40Hz Detect @ 18

Distortion @ 11 <---WTF

Signal Detect @ 19

1kHz Detect @ 20

Distortion @ 17

From what I can tell, Signal detection should come first, then frequency then distortion but thats not what I'm seeing.

After spending this much on my system, I'd like to be able to go above volume 11 without damaging it.

Think these are deck issues or RCA issues?

Did you turn off bass boost ,sound "enhancements" and e.q.'s or at least set the e.q. to flat?

Ditch the old H/U for a new one as that is most likely where the problem lies.

Also, is there anything else on that jump drive, like other music. the reason i ask is I find it hard to believe a 5 year old sony can play lossless wma files. Maybe you are playing a song and not the dd-1 tones. Just a thought

Everything is off and eq set to flat. The deck can play mp3, wma, aac and atrac3. I emptied the drive beforehand.

Just want to determine where the problem is before I start spending money, ya know.

Well, it may just be a crappy deck then, One other thing, i would hook up your amp and listen to the tones to verify it is actually playing them I know on an older headunit i had, if it didn't recognize the format it would just play pink noise. (static)

Ya I did, also named the tones so I could see them on the HU as they played. Guess I'll start looking up decks. I'll change the RCA and move them further away from +V while I'm at it.

Got a new deck installed and rerouted higher quality RCA. Everything works, clips at 49/50 (1kHz) and 50/50 (40Hz) so using 48. Gains set and frequencys are set at 80Hz overlapping 10Hz. I'm not getting the bass I feel I should be from the sub after setting deck EQ options. My bass amp starting clipping just as I started to increase gain from zero (barely 1/8 turn).

As I'll never be playing the deck at 48 volume (25 is kinda painful) could I reset the gains for, say 30 volume to get a better bass response?

Any other options I can take?

What is your "bass" amp? and you may be getting poor power.
