Pioneerchuck
Look at the idling amperage of that alt, I would go as far as to say it probably only puts out like 90A at idle and you probably have to be a near 5 grand for it to do anywhere close to its 180A claim. Tarball
Welcome to the SMD forums. Lots off great infromation and good quality folks here willing to help. I suggest you read up a bunch in the Electrical section. Use the search function also it will give you more information than you can imagine if used right. READ READ READ is the key, ask targeted questions, then when you have a solid understanding, then begin to plan to buy stuff. My advice - If you want to play in the 2k plus range - start with a quality H.O. alternator from a reputable company - output at idle is an important detail. Do Big 3 with alt then build out your electrical from there. If a quality H.O. alternator is out of your price range then consider changing your system goals around a bit. A well built 1k setup is going to sound better then a cheaply done 2k setup. Use the for sale section - lots of great deals, you can find a good alt for that ride (used) for a fair price that will likely fit your needs. If you wanna play you have to pay! Fortunately there are many different levels to play at and all are enjoyable in their own respect. peace CURRENT SYSTEM: Alternator: Stock alt on mids/highs Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v Batteries: (2) XS D1400s Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks Headunit: 80-PRS Sub Amp: DC 5.0k Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal.
