knubs
Hey guys! i have a 2002 mitsubishi lancer and im having some fun with it. i've spent more on audio equipment for this car than what the car is even worth. i'm already quite a ways into the build (not done yet though) but i've been taking pictures and i figured i would share my build with everyone in hopes of gaining some more knowledge from everyone. this is my first build and i have no prior experience with audio stuffs or wood working. i also have only one hand and did everything you are about to see with no help from anyone else. <---so there's my excuses lol here is what WAS in my car last year- a dayton audio 12" home audio speaker the cheapest prefab box i could buy a boss '3500w' amp and a cheap ass 4 channel from craigslist that was before i had even heard a system at all... now i've been trying to educate myself via the internet and learn all i can. here is my NEW equipment list- DC XL 15" (m2, d2) hifonics brutus 2400 amp rockford fosgate R-400d 4 channel kinetik hc2400 KNU 0 gauge KNU 8gauge karma speaker wire scosche 12gauge speaker wire powermax usa 180amp alternator install bay 500amp isolator relay 2 stinger voltage meters pioneer ts-d1720c 6.5 for the front alpine sps-610c 6.5's for the back Second skin damplifier now for the pics!!! this is how my setup looked when i knew nothing about car audio lol here is my first DC xl 15. it was used and UPS destroyed it despite the nice wooden shipping crate... that was like 4 months ago and they finally paid me for the damage just very recently. here is my new battery!!! terminals. i got 4 of these my isolator now THIS is some speaker wire!!!! knu karma ss 8 gauge dont mind the xscorpion meters. they felt very cheap and were huge so i sent them back here is my shiny new DC XL 15" i bought while waiting for ups to inspect the one they broke went to home depot for some great stuff and a guy saw me grab a can and told me they had off brand stuff for a dollar for 2 cans. i bought 4 cans. some stinger rca's. i bought one set when my old rca's broke. as soon as i received this set my second old set went out and i had to buy another set! stinger meters! second skin dampliier that's not all the 0 gauge i used. i went through a lot for this build alright, there is all the equipment pics i have. now for the build! knubs
building the box for my 15. that drywall square was the best spent $10 ever!box assembled. now time to tear it apart and rebuild with glue! oh and the holes were cut with a jigsawoh shit!!!! getting closer!i had to figure out a way to get the sub in with one hand without knocking the rubber ring off the sub. this is what i did. i just cut the string and pulled it out when i had the sub positioned where i wanted it trying to get it in by myself. i have one hand and i'm 120lbs. this was not easy! hahaha good measurements! that sub only had less than an inch of clearance at the top it's in!!!! and less than a week after getting it installed i went to a competition and hit 137.3 in db drag. that was with the power down a bit. i could have burped a LOT harder but i was scared to still at that point. i did take first in the 129.9 class for bass racing though. HatersGonnaHate
You having one hand explains the screen name.... The first pic with all the tape wrapped around the wrench had me wondering for a minute, then I got to the last of the pics, then re-read the first post, and it all made sense. Now that all that's out of the way, amazing fucking job man! Coming together very very nice and I'll be tuned in for the finished product! knubs
i am not happy enough with my 137db. i am also not liking my 35hz tuning. sooooo, now i am thinking about cutting out the middle section of my back seats and modifying it to fold down (right now my back seats dont fold down at all). after that i am going to build a box that will have the port facing into the car through that section that will fold. i will also tune the box to 38hz and then have different port extension that i can bolt on to lower my tuning. this will allow me to have a 30hz tuning when i feel like listening to super low music, but still let me have a higher tuning for db drag and listening to high music. what do you guys think?
